Kobe To Melo: Make Sure You're 100% Happy With Decision
Kobe Bryant advised Carmelo Anthony to carefully weigh his options.

"We’ll see if he signs a reasonable extension and if he’s 100 percent happy that it’s where he wants to go," Bryant told Yahoo! Sports on Saturday. "If not, don’t make a move just to get out of the situation. ... Make sure it’s a move that you’re very happy in and you’re comfortable with."

"I’m closer to him than anyone else from my Olympic team," Bryant said. "My advice is to do what he feels is right for him and his family. It starts there. He has to be happy with the situation that he is in because if your heart isn’t where it should be, it could have a half-ass effect. You don’t want that. You can’t please everybody. You just have to do what’s right for you."

Sounds like good advice - maybe Kobe knows Melo doesn't want to be in NJ. He should wait and sign in NY as a FA if that's what he really wants. He will get paid.

Would you risk millions of dollars and not sign a $65 mil extension right in front of you to wait for next year?
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Yes...he will make more than 65 mil in the long run, if he waits and signes with the Knicks. He has a long career ahead of him, and his boy plays for the Knicks. Thats what Kobe is talking about being happy playing with his boy, and solid move for his family / wife.

No. He is being smart. The new cba, and the chance of injury make getting this done now the right move for him.

So Money is more important then being happy and comfortable???? It's thoughts like that that is killing sports and this world in general. Will he ever be able to spend all of the money he makes in the NBA? The answer you gave is the generic correct answer, but in real life it is the wrong answer. Look at all of these rich unhappy people. I definitely want him to play for the knicks but this "he can't leave money on the table" is not so cut and dry.

Wherever a player of this caliber goes, he will get paid. Kobe is right. Make sure it works for the family.

His wife is from NY, the NETs play in NJ, I'm sure his family is a factor, thats a no brainer. At this point he would have to take into consideration the make up of the roster which will essentially be gutted no matter where he goes.

losing in NJ for 2 seasons, thats not good

Just remember everyone... Melo got a $18.5M player option next year.

Melo and his previous agent did not play this correctly when signing his last contract. They missed the boat by not giving him an out 1 year earlier.

There are players who made more than him and are broke. So 65 million with these guys they run through it.

I agree with this. It takes one mistake to trigger a free fall of money loss. It doesn't matter what profession you are in try to maximize your earnings.

As a career HR professional and an owner of a successful HR consulting firm, the first bit of advice I give to a person searching for a new job is never make a move simply because of the money.

You have a point Bip but he is doing what he enjoys doing that is play basketball. That advice works for someone who is not doing what they love to do. That reasoning falls in the line of do what you love to do and are passionate about. Choosing a career for money isn't the way to go if you don't enjoy the work.

Melo won't enjoy losing in NJ for 2 years, and playing for a half empty arena. While the Garden will rock!
