The Denver Nuggets are having serious discussions about a four-way trade that would land Carmelo Anthony with the New Jersey Nets, according to sources with knowledge of the negotiations.

The proposed deal, sources said, also would involve the Utah Jazz and the Charlotte Bobcats. It would deliver Nets rookie forward Derrick Favors, Jazz veteran Andrei Kirilenko and multiple first-round picks to Denver in exchange for their franchise player, potentially bringing a resolution to Anthony's uncertain future before the Nuggets hold their first practice of the new season.

Sources told ESPN.com that the deal, which has yet to be finalized, also would send former All-Star point guard Devin Harris to Charlotte, with Bobcats forward Boris Diaw moving to Utah.

The four teams, said one source close to the talks, are "seriously engaged" after extensive talks Thursday.

However, one obstacle is Anthony's willingness to sign a contract extension with the Nets. A source told ESPN.com that the Nets will not go through with the trade -- even if Denver is ready to pull the trigger -- unless Anthony commits to signing a contract extension, as Kevin Garnett did as part of the mega-trade that sent him from Minnesota to Boston in July 2007.

Because Anthony has the ability to become a free agent at season's end -- which is the hammer that has enabled his agent, Leon Rose, to apply such pressure to the Nuggets in hopes of forcing a trade before the start of the season -- New Jersey is unwilling to sacrifice assets such as Favors and Harris without a guarantee that Anthony will be there for the long term.

ESPN.com reported earlier this week that Anthony's representatives have been pushing Denver to deal the 26-year-old to New York or Chicago, his two preferred destinations, but the Knicks lack the trade assets required to tempt Denver and the Bulls have consistently refused to make center Joakim Noah available, trying instead to sell the Nuggets on a package headlined by swingman Luol Deng.

The Nuggets have offered Anthony a three-year extension worth $65 million, but he has not signed the deal.

This might make me more mad than the whole lebron fiasco. No chance I renew my season tickets after this season if this happens.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

Thats a big price to pay. Two years in the swamp.

Dan Gilbert was a bitch ***** when Lebron left. Gilbert spent 300k having some cartoon made that idiot Lebron likes to show how good "home is". Dude also spent 100k on that full page ad.

And he left.

The russian is not to be phucked with so If Im melo I don't expect cartoons and nice, I'd expect to be hung by the ankles in a helicopter until he signs the extension. He'll have Melos brains or his signiture on a contract.

But really, Favors, Harris and multiple picks for Melo? They ain't gonna beat Miami, or ATL, or Even the Knicks. HOw much better does Lopez get? How much better does Melo get from here?

Good for Denver and the Starphuching Nets.

I guess its time to see what Melo is made out of.

Like Marbury, he too wanted NY but ended with Nets. Two years in Newark. Two years in Newark.

Melo and Lopez... annnnd who else? who's their PG again?

i'm not worried about this trade. and i'd be relieved to see the knicks off the hook here.

but of course some lame posters will decide donnie failed by not going out and trading our entire future for the second coming of glenn robinson. and i'm sure isiah thomas will use this to make in-roads with dolan that he would have never let melo go.

and you know what the center piece for New Jersey's trade is? their 2010 draft pick. you know what happened to our 2010 draft pick? ask isiah.

- Who cares who there PG is. Farmar will be their PG but it doesn't really matter because if you got Melo you are in the playoffs in the East.

- Please don't mention Isiah because he has diddly too do with this.

If melo agrees to this so be it. Let him rot thru his prime in mediocricy with an overrated lopez and no supporting cast. We can get Parker instead and still retain our young guys and be much better off. I still want him but if he wants to go to nj let him. We have plenty of other chances to get better.

Some here would be going crazy if we had 23 year old Jordan Farmer here too.

more deets from kberg:

looks like

Melo to the Nets
Kirilenko, Favors and future picks to the Nuggz
Diaw to Utah
DHarris to Charlotte

i mean, AK47's expiring contract, Favors and picks is a better package than Curry's expiring contract, AR and Gallo? is it? i dunno. not that the knicks stepped up and offered AR and Gallo.

not sure how i feel about missing the melo boat. i'm kind of glad the knicks will get a chance to grow together. and there will be chances to get more pieces next summer... still... melo is pretty damn good.

Replace "Amadeus" with "Negativity".

Negativity, negativity...Negativity.
Negativity, negativity...Negativity.
Negativity, negativity...Oh oh oh NEGATIVITY.

No supporting cast?

- Lopez while overrated but can still put up 20/10. Obviously so can Chris Kaman but you get my point.

- Terrence Williams has pathetic offense but he can play SG next to Melo and provide solid defense and ball handling.

- Morrow is their shooter off the bench

- Farmar = Duhon or Steroids

- Outlaw is a solid scorer and wingman off the bench

- Troy Murphies expiring deal should allow them to get some talent back. Maybe Zach Randolph? Who knows?

- Plus they got Damian Jones in the draft.

'Melo still has heart set on Knicks but case being made to him Nets are compromise he'll have to accept to get his full money and NY market.

Donnie must be stubborn with not including Gallo and Randolph or Eddy Curry's deal was a NO NO.

Melo turning down money? Not happening.

This is just one more reason for me to hate the Nets.
