Talented. 6'9" SF. But a mental midget who makes Tim Thomas look like a workaholic.

He has a ton of potential. He also is a knucklehead. No risk, high reward signing. This is an outside the box signing for the coach that is in place. Hopefully Williams has grown up and takes advantage of this opportunity.

Larry Bird drafted him.

I thought it was Sean Williams.

From Wiki:

In January of 2010, Williams was arrested in Memphis on felony drug charges for selling a codeine substance. Williams later pleaded guilty in April to misdemeanor drug possession. He was placed on six months' probation, ordered to undergo mandatory drug testing, attend a drug offender school and make a $10,000 contribution to the Shelby County Drug Treatment Court. His legal situation cleared up quickly. The 6-foot-9 Williams found a sympathetic coach in Charlotte's Larry Brown as he tried to rekindle his career. A close friend of his college coach, John Calipari, Brown invited Williams to a free-agent mini camp to determine Charlotte's roster for the 2010 Orlando summer league. Williams later on made the summer league squad with the Charlotte Bobcats; showing a great understanding of the game of basketball and athleticism. Williams is currently trying to earn a spot on the Bobcats' regular season roster. In July of 2010, Williams was arrested again for driving with a suspended license; he was also found to possess marijuana and a loaded gun. More charges are pending.

I thought it was Sean Williams.

sadly, both Shawne Williams and Sean Williams turned out to be headcases who didn't live up to their potential.

Larry Bird drafted him.

Walsh was still involved in Indiana's team at that point in time. I'm sure he had input into the draft process. But okay, Bird pulled the trigger.

I like the move. This dude had nice talent & upside at one point not too long ago...Can't hurt to take a look...So PEJ's the 15 man, Shawne Williams is #16...Anyone else? How many guys total do we usually invite to camp anyway? I wonder what the deal is with Mo Ager..Another dude with talent--very similar to Shannon Brown: slash & finish with hops and he can shoot the 3 ball. Haven't heard anything about Ager in about a month..I wonder if he wanted too much money..

The only thing I don't like about acquiring S. Williams is the fact that he's similar to Landry Fields, I guy I only saw play 5 SL games (I didn't follow Fields at Stanford) yet I'm convinced he's got nice talent and the ability to jump in and help out right away. Hey competition's a good thing I suppose.. Landry's just gonna have to come in continue to bust his tail & a prove it to MDA..I'm just really rooting for Fields man -- LOVED what I saw in summer league. Even though Mike worked him out, I don't get the feeling Fields was a D'Antoni guy (I wonder who Mike really wanted at 39 after Andy Rautins---maybe it was J Jordan hence the trade for #44) so I wonder if Fields does have a leg up or if Fields, S. Williams & PEJ are all in the same boat to start off in Mike's eyes..Fields' ability to play 2 or 3 at the pro level should help his cause..

Speaking of Rautins, anyone know his status? I know he suffered a knee injury of some sort during the WCs. What's his deal? Anyone have an update?

low-risk high-reward. not surprising that donnie is giving shawne another chance since he's the one that drafted him out of memphis. he's an athletic player that can play multiple positions and IF he ever gets his head on straight, i can see him playing a boris diaw type role on a d'antoni team. his problem has never been talent, his problem has been legal problems, so hopefully that's all behind him now.

relax, just another typical filler for practices leading up till the final cuts. Every year there are camp invites with little to no chance of making the roster.....its a non-issue

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt
