From Knicks News. Nice article on the kid:

Patrick Ewing, Jr. is finally healthy and ready to go for the New York Knicks.NBAE/Getty ImagesOver the course of the summer, nyknicks.com will sit down with members of the team, coaching staff, front office and others to discuss the eagerly anticipated 2010-11 campaign.

We recently caught up with Patrick Ewing, Jr, to get his thoughts about coming to New York.

NYKnicks.com: So first things first, how does it feel to officially be back in a Knicks uniform?

Patrick Ewing, Jr.: Oh, it’s cool! You know, I am excited and am anticipating doing everything I can to help this team win.

NYKnicks.com: How hard has this last year been for you as you have rehabbed to get healthy?

Ewing, Jr.: It was terrible. It was mentally the toughest year of my life. I have been hurt before, but I’ve never been hurt to the point where I couldn’t play in a game or even had to miss practice. So it was definitely tough, but it has helped make me who I am. I am hungry now. I want to play basketball, and I think that year off showed me that.

NYKnicks.com: Compare your feelings heading into training camp this year to how you felt the first time around two years ago.

Ewing, Jr.: I kind of know what to expect. I think coming out as a rookie I didn’t know what to expect. But now I have sat down with the coaching staff and with Donnie (Walsh), and they talked to me about what they think I need to do to help the team out. I think I am not as naïve going into the situation this time as I was before.

NYKnicks.com: What did they tell you?

Ewing, Jr.: Well Donnie, he said he wanted me to be able to come in and be a defensive stopper and to help the team out defensively. Obviously, with the roster we have we have a lot of scorers. Some positions we are undersized, and I think with my ability to play multiple positions as well as guard multiple positions, that is something they are looking for with me.

NYKnicks.com: How did Summer League go for you this year?

Ewing, Jr.: Both went well. In Orlando I had my dad out there and he let me play my game and kind of be the leader of the team, taking the big shots and doing a lot of things like that. Summer League in Las Vegas with the Knicks was a little different. We had 18 guys so it was a little tough to see minutes, but in the minutes I had I think I was productive. I think I had probably one of the highest plus/minuses of anyone on the team. So I think Summer League overall was a good experience this year.

NYKnicks.com: What is it like to know that the fans are behind you and supporting you?

Ewing, Jr.: Oh, it’s really good. It means a lot to know you have someone behind you backing you in your corner. It was various obvious to me when I got cut last time, everyone was sad to see me go and telling me how they were rooting for me to stick around and wished I had made the team. That meant a lot to see I had the fans rooting for me. But like I said before, there are no grudges held between me and the organization. It was just a numbers game and I was caught in a bad situation. But I am back now. The situation is different. I am better. The team has gotten better. So now I think we can make it happen.

NYKnicks.com: What number are you planning on wearing?

Ewing, Jr.: 20. I’m going to be number 20. Landry Fields took my number (6), and me and him already had a discussion about that! I’m not too pleased! (laughs) But it’s all good I just took a random number and 20 sounded good.

NYKnicks.com: Talk about the team this year and how you think you will fit along with the guys on the roster.

Ewing, Jr.: I think it is going to fit great. I have been working out with Anthony (Randolph), Wilson (Chandler), Danilo (Gallinari) and Toney (Douglas) and everyone else and so far it’s been good. I’ve known Toney since we were in high school, and Gallo was a rookie with me the first time I was in camp and Wilson was here already and I have known Anthony since back in high school too. So I know everybody and am comfortable around them. The expectations are high for us and we know that and we are ready to go out there and win games, make the playoffs and get far in the playoffs. Everyone has the goal to win a championship and that is what we are looking forward to.

NYKnicks.com: When did you find out you were going to get a chance to come back to the Knicks?

Ewing, Jr.: Honestly, not until a few days before I signed. My agent said he was pretty close to getting a deal done with Donnie and to stay on hold and continue to work out. He said to cross my fingers and hope for the best and that is what happened . I was talking with Donnie and he is very supporting of bringing me in and having me here and giving me my contract, so that is a little bit more motivation to help make me hungry.

NYKnicks.com: Finally, as we always end, if you have one thing you want to tell the fans, what do you want to tell them?

Ewing, Jr.: Thank you! They’ve had my back since day one, and I am going to come out here and play as hard as I can every day. That is what I have been known for doing. I am going to give my all and put it all on the floor.
