I'm not expecting an instant contender, but when you add an all star bigman its going to change the level of your team.

When Webber got to the Kings they also had some good young players coming up in Jason Williams and Peja. Maybe not stars but certainly very good players.... rotation players on a playoff team.

If Amare was broken down, 34 years old, coming off an injury, I could see the doubts. He's 27. He's coming off an 82 game season (+ playoffs). The only time he's missed in 4 years (82, 79, 53, 82 games last 4 seasons) is from the freakish eye injury, which obviously isnt a wear and tear thing.

Last 4 years (including the eyeball year)
He's average 73 games and 34 minutes
He's avergaed 56.5 FG%
He gets to the line for 7.7 FT attempts
Throw in 1.4 blocks a game
22 PPG
8.9 RPG

And for those who think he doesnt defend players guarded by Amare have one of the lowest EFG% in the league. Only KG and Dwight Howard kept their opponents to a lower EFG%

This is the kind of player that will make everything easier for the Knicks when he's on the floor.

Nobody is saying adding Amare = 50 wins. It doesnt. But like when the Kings got Webber the Knicks will have a guy who knows how to win in this league. Who can be a leader. Who can defend a post player. Who can make big plays and impose his will on a game and turn things around when the Knicks are struggling. He will make the young players on this roster and the Knicks will win games next year.

Amar'e Stoudemire = Chris Webber
Danilo Gallinari = Peja Stojakovic
Raymond Felton = Mike Bibby
Toney Douglas = Bobby Jackson

We need someone to be Vlade Divac and Doug Christie.

Sounds like a plan...but we still need an additional super star if none of ours pans out to be one.

I think it's time for every player on this roster to take a step there skills up.
MDA..success is now link to having nash, he seriously needs to shed that thought

Felton..very good player who has the chance to become a sure enough star
Amare...A super star that needs to take his skills to legendary status

We already know how most feel about the rest of the potential we have, if it all comes together we shoulb be fine.

Very good points. I remember when we were really pushing to get Webber when he was the same age as Stoudemire. He was one of the players who was most likely to be a Knick at some point and never was. And we were looking to deal Houston and Camby for him just so we could team him up with his buddy Sprewell. Although Webber's game isn't much like Amare's, they are comparable in terms of dominance in the league at these points in their careers. The fact that we got Amare as a free agent for nothing just shows how big of a signing this is, and what type of turnaround he can be the start of here. Clearly one of the biggest FA signings in our history, probably the greatest.

People see the Stoudemire signing as a question mark because of how much we paid him, but what people forget is what is most important about this signing. He brings credibility that we haven't had in quite some time, as well as other possible stars to join him, and as you said the ability to help the young guys rise to the next level. I think Gallo will be the first, as he will have a dominant big man and solid PG to feed off of. I expect him to get easier shots and his FG% and 3PT% to go up. I figure he should average 19 points, 6 rebs, 3 asts, 44% FG and 42% 3PT. He should really have a breakout year because of Felton and Stoudemire.

I fully expect us to get Melo, or at worst, if Felton doesn't pan out we upgrade to Parker over the summer. I'm sure we will get someone else within the next year.

Overpaying an aging Parker, who cant shoot and relies on speed, is an upgrade?

So that means when we face Boston in the East Finals up 3-2, the refs will job us out on our own floor leading to 8,000,000 free throws for Boston - ultimately leading to the C's winning another title?

Tony had injuries last year but he just turned 28, that's not aging. Dude shoots 49% from the field. Not a 3point threat.

I need a good long look at Felton this year. He strikes me as a better defender than Parker. I think he's got the motor to run this thing. His stats are pretty similar to Nash's at the same point in their career, and Felton is a baller. I'm not saying he will make that next step, but I do think he has the tools.

I think the next big aquisition should be a top shelf SG. A guy who is a lock down defender. You have to have that these days, but also a guy who can really handle the ball, make some plays and of course score. Ironically Joe Johnson would have been perfect, but that contract is ludicris. Iggy comes to mind. I know he's little older but maybe we can use Eddy's expiring and another piece for Rip Hamilton. I think Rip could have a Reggie Miller type career and still be extremely good in his later 30s.

Okay, i'll bite. Wilson Chandler > Doug Christie and Ronnie Turiaf or Timo > Vlade. We're on our way

Yeah, he was especially good at passing off clutch shot to Bibby.

You have to put 2 asterisks next to Amare's stats - one for Nash and the second for playing in MDA's up tempo system.

Obviously, the second one translates since we got the same coach and system, but a lot of what made Amare effective was being set up, and we won't have that same level of play from Felton, even if he steps up in the new system.

Otherwise, I agree, adding Amare should help our team- I don't know if he is a leader, but clearly, he's won, and will expect guys to step up their play.

one of the best passing bigs ever. Def one of CWebs strengths. Where Amare has him beat is in the way he scores. Webber took a lot more jumpers. Webber was a less physical scorer than Amare. Amare imposes his will on the basket and it shows in his FTs and FG%. Amare is over 55% and I think CWeb is like 48%.

Not sure I could clearly pick one over the other. Probably Amare because of attacking mentality and his ability to change games at the FT line, but both were bigtime players

So then Amare can't do what Webber did.

Passing of Webber,... the willingness to passs... changed the complexion of that team... for the better.

Amare is ... to put it bluntly... "just a scorer". And not going to make the team a whole lot better by himself scoring a lot.

Not hatin Amare... we will be better... but we won't make the kind of jump you're thinking.

not fair at all... totally disagree. Marion's #s were the same before and after MDA. Amare was a beast his first two years before Nash and this was a guy out of HS. Nash said himself Amare probably made him better than he made Amare.

Also no system can inflate FG%, which is why its so key to have high FG% guys and guys who defend. Thats why I would seriously take a guy like Douglas over Crawford (other thread). If your a high volume SSOL type team the whole point in getting more shots is that you shoot a better %
