WHOOSH! 3 sheets to the wind baby! 1 shot with a mix of Jack Daniels, Jose Cuerva (sp?), Jim Beam and Johnny Walker. I tried it once, and probably wont have it again, but everyone should dive into that once in their life. :-P “Whenever I’m about to do something, I think ‘Would an idiot do that?’ and if they would, I do NOT do that thing.”- Dwight Schrute

Lets just say that the next morning, my friend told me he thought he heard the Excorsist playing upstairs. This is when I visited Atlanta a couple of weeks ago and we went to a freaky but freaking but kinda awesome place called the Clearmount lounge. ![]() I don't understand the point of this thread.. Is it to criticize Tommy Dee in his assessment that this could be a breakout year for AR now that he's in a different system & playing for a different coach (something I agree with 100% btw)? Is it to give Nelson a complete pass when it came to anything AR? Is that the main idea? That Nellie somehow did a great job with this kid? That Nellie should somehow be taken off the hook for this kid's lack of true development his first two years??? I mean I don't believe that at all..
I think that GS team was never cut out to win anything the last two years. As such, developing Randolph should have been one of their top priorities if not the main focus--either right out in the open from day one or something Nelson had in the back of his mind..The quicker we get Randolph developed, the better off we'll be is what I would've been thinking...It wasn't like that team was ever ready to compete against the Lakers, PHX, Utah, Portland or any of the other top Western Conference playoff teams..From what I remember seeing, there were plenty of times when Randolph was healthy and willing and able to go where Nelson jerked him in and out of the lineup like a yo-yo. There were times where he did give him a chance to play and Randolph really shined & responded BUT then plenty of other times, sometimes right on the heels of a standout performance even, where he either wouldn't play him at all (injuries are one thing and they have been a factor with AR thusfar but again, when this kid was fully healthy and ready to go, he should've been in there, no excuses, not on that team--it wasn't even a playoff team) or if he was in he'd jerk him right outta the game after any kind of mistake or lapse...I got one for ya -- remember the game at the Garden where Tim Thomas threw that dunk down on AR?? Hey stuff like that is gonna happen at times -- did Nellie really have to take him out of the game immediately and embarrass him like that? I remember that one instance clearly and there were plenty others. I remember Randolph being LIVID at the time with that crap -- you could see it all over his face..Stuff like that went on far too often..Why do you think Randolph was so unhappy & bitter there playing for this guy? This dude Nelson even went as far as to tell Randolph one day that he should talk to his agent about seeking a trade..Remember that one? Why on Earth would you ever tell your 20-year-old rookie, let alone any player, something so unbelieveable and counterproductive like that??? I don't know man -- if I had a 20-year-old standout talent like that, the last thing in the world I'd be thinking about would be to go completely out of my way to tear the kid down any chance I got..I would've been all about nurturing the young man and remaining positive, even when mistakes were made..Make that ESPECIALLY when mistakes were made..If Nelson wasn't prepared to do that, then he should never have drafted such a young player..I mean what the hell did he think, that he was drafting a 20-year-old college freshman that was gonna come into the NBA and play mistake-free ball??? Come on... If AR's attitude was ever in question (which it very well may have been at times, it usually takes two to tango), I would've first had my team captain talk to him (then again Nellie didn't get along too well with Stephen Jackson either There's no way around it---Nelson can get real crazy & bush league at times...I mean the way he handled AR was Larry Brown nonsense taken to a whole 'nother level -- LB X100..Completely unnecessary if you ask me..There are proper ways of handling things (esp. when dealing with such a young player--when GS had this guy I believe he was the youngest player in the league, not sure if that's still the case) and then there's Nelson's way..I'm no GS fan, I'm a Knick fan and as a Knick fan looking at the situation from afar, it never appeared Nelson had the necessary patience needed to deal with this kid (and a lot of players for that matter)..I don't see how he deserves any kind of a pass with how he handled the situation...You can make a very good argument that injuries aside, another coach would've had Randolph much further along to the point where he could've found himself on the Team USA roster right now with many of the other young stars in this league.. Hey don't get me wrong -- I'm happy with the outcome...If Nelson did get along with AR where AR was further along in his development process, GS probably never trades him, even for David Lee. I'll take it.. However, I wouldn't be so quick as to absolve Nelson of any wrong doing here..He could've done a hell of a lot more with this kid than he did. |
