He was a big jamal crawford fan. I used to get upset cause he wouldn't use proper punctuation and such. He wouldn't put two spaces between periods. I am bad at punctuation but he/she was worse. I thought he was a "special" person and things would move on. Apparently they haven't. Cosmic remembers him well. This was over 4 years ago. He still doesn't understand periods.

This is the link.

LOL.

I'm just curious to know what prompted you to post this now. Are you Cosmic?

Putting two spaces between sentences isn't proper. It's mainly for high school and lower.

This is true. I never figured out why we learned a specific style in high school that was not applicable to college or the real world. It was kinda weird, because I recall having to unlearn that habit and it took me a few years to finally stop unconsciously doing it.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

I actually think you can get away from using two spaces earlier, as I vaguely remember my dad telling me to stop at a very early age. Maybe 10th grade. It's probably used to help the younger kids in some way. I'll ask one of the sexy female english majors I know.

Actually it is something that changed as we moved from typewriters (with mono spaced fonts) to computers (with proportional spaced fonts). I learned to type on an electric typewriter, and learned to use two spaces. I also worked as a legal word processor in the late 80's-early 90's, where we also used two spaces - but everything was in courier (mono spaced font).

This site goes into some detail about the changeover from two to one spaces:

I still use two spaces.

https:// It's not so hard.

UK seems to automatically make the sentence following a period begin one space after that period.

One space. Looks like this.

Two spaces. Looks the same.

Three spaces. Looks the same.

it's not us so much as that's how web pages work. All spaces are truncated down to 1.

Same here. I argue with my children that you need 2 spaces after every period. My daughter would get on me and say that it is wrong.

You must still put two spaces between sentences, according to the graduate level writing class I took last summer.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

I don't think I have ever been corrected for using 1 space though, and I'm an undergrad. Maybe this is something that will change when I reach the grad. level.
