Anthony has hesitated to sign a three-year, $65 million extension and expressed intrigue with opting out of his contract next summer to become a free agent. Despite significant speculation the New York Knicks are the team that Anthony would most likely want to join, two sources close to him insisted the Knicks have been overstated as an object of his desire. Privately, Anthony has expressed more enthusiasm over joining the Houston Rockets than the Knicks, sources said.

We cannot let Houston steal Carmelo Anthony. If Denver wants 2/3 (Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Anthony Randolph), we pull the trigger NOW. After Melo, there is not a single Star FA on the market next summer.

If true, he's probably thinking of Dolan vs. Leslie Alexander, and Daryl Morey vs. Walsh and the possibility of Isaiah coming back.

These are very valid concerns... and there's not much we can do about them.

Rose is not the answer.

iSergio- thats exactly what the Nuggets want you to do by releasing this kind of info- they want NY to panic and offer the farm when they didn't actually need to. I don't actually believe this at all- what would be the point from Carmelo's perspective of moving from Denver to Houston? Minus what they'd lose in the trade, the only thing giving the Rockets a shot would be Yao who looks increasingly likely to retire early due to foot problems. It's not nearer his family, it doesn't help his wife's career and it's not really a contender- it's a much over rated team in my opinion.

Honestly fretting about whether anyone else will trade for Carmelo is completely pointless- the ONLY way we get Carmelo is if he says he will only re-sign with the Knicks and no other team. If he's willing to go to other teams like LA Clippers (I don't believe that either) or Houston Rockets, those teams can easily out bid us (what we value on the team isn't valued by other GM's it seems)- especially the Rockets since they have our picks, so we couldn't even outbid them even if we wanted to.

We'll either get him for nothing and sign him outright, or we'll get him for little at the trade deadline because he won't sign with another team, or we won't get him at all- it's out of our hands.

Bingo. Denver is trying to up the ante, probably are coming to the realization that Melo is not coming back. Look how some here are already panicking that we have to give up everything for Melo. He's a very good - great player. However if he goes somewhere else, still has to sign a long term deal. And if he does that, then the Knicks go with what we have and target Parker or Paul as future FA's.

Exactly- I don't see what Houston offers over his current location. You can understand him moving to be nearer family, or to help his wifes career or even to join an actual championship contender like the Magic- but Houston?!It's pretty obvious this came from Denver, along with the Clippers rumour, because which two teams can offer the most for Denver trade wise? thats right- Houston and the Clippers.

Here we go again. You should have learned from LeBron that players can go where ever they want. To say he won't go to a certain place is short sighted. Far as I'm concerned Melo can go to any team he wants to go to. He may even go to New Orleans to team up with his buddy CP3. Put it this way we don't know jack as to what Melo wants.

i'm with you, martin.

not saying houston is a bad choice, but it's not so clear it makes sense houston is a better location.

gotta love sports "journalism"...

a month ago we were sure to get paul and melo, in fact "sources" saying they want to play with amar'e, yet now paul is staying and melo wants houston.

give me a break.

worrying?

who's worrying? not me, certainly.

sports always have such rumors. why is this such a big deal to have the possibility of getting melo or paul in the news?

since we are not a finished product the team needs more stars, so clearly rumors are going to go around.

we'll see what happens, but i'd gladly take melo if we can get him.

if he goes to houston over the knicks, so be it. that's his choice. i think we have a legit shot at him and paul, and simply because rumors go back and forth doesn't mean one is, or is not going to play for the knicks.

we are one of a few teams with a legit shot, it seems, which is better than what was going on this past summer, and we still landed amar'e.

The Knicks better not fall for this crap. Either trade for Melo on the cheap, or wait until free agency. Show the patience Godfather!

Carmelo wants to win. If the Knicks started the season hot I think his opinion would change.

Regardless we need to make Denver an offer they cant refuse before the start of the season. Randolph, Gallo, Curry, and a future pick for Carmelo and JR Smith. We would have Carmelo's bird rights plus we'd be able keep Chandler.

You love busting my balls man.

You have to give to get. Carmelo is only 26 and his game isnt built around athleticism. Carmelo is a high skill guy. He makes us contenders in the East with his superior scoring alone. Obviously we'd need an upgrade at the PG spot and SG spots but a core of Amare and Anthony would be sweet.

Could not agree more--please trade this guy to Houston so we can concentrate on running a team that is going to go all out to win now.

Might also be coming from Anthony's camp- maybe he just wants to make the Knicks jealous. He might be fearful that the Knicks are taking his desire to play in NY for granted to the point that we will simply wait until next years FA season, and he is worried that we are not pursuing him with enough gusto so that he can play for us in the upcoming season.

Just a thought.

You don't have to give in this situation. Melo is UFA this summer. He wants to be in NY. We will get him if we stay patient.

If we cave in and give a top end deal--we wont win anyway--so what is the point? If we dont get Carmelo for some reason---this team is going to be good regardless. I'm not willing to sell the ship for one player.
