you just made that up.
The part where I said said "I think" implied it was my opinion.
The Knicks want to be able to make a run at Carmelo or the other 2011 Free agents. Guys like Horford, Noah, and Stuckey may potentially be available. While they are arent the cream of the crop they are upgrades.
Walsh didnt pay Lee so I doubt he pays Chandler with Gallo and Randolph on the roster. If we get Carmelo forget about it.
I get what you're saying, though I don't see it exactly like you do- the problem with Chandler, and what makes it very unlikely he stays with us after this year is that I think he counts as a cap hold of $6mil, which along with Azubuike (also $6mil) makes it pretty much impossible to be under the cap enough to sign Carmelo to a max contract without renouncing his/their rights (though I'm no cap expert- I hope I'm wrong!). I think the only circumstances Chandler returns is if we don't get Carmelo (I think Chandler gets signed over any other free agent available next year), or we trade gallo and not him to Denver to get Carmelo. When you also factor in the changes to the CBA that will probably make things more difficult, cap wise, then it looks very unlikely that Chandler is a Knick after this season, unfortunately.
