If we want to keep him locked for 3 years we need to keep his salary controlled by signing him to a 1 year deal--we open up the possibility that he shows some nice things and gets taken by another club when w e couldve kept him for 600K

Good point. Isn't that also how the Warriors lost out on Gilbert Arenas? That might be why it's taking so long to sign him.
