Working on a project that I'll post as soon as its ready to launch. I'm looking for everyone's help; need your opinions on the most unique "only in NYC" type bars, restaurants, tours, services etc. in the five boroughs and I guess we'll include Hoboken.

Thanks everyone...

I don't know if it's that unique, but I really like the Continental, in the Village.

pdq in the east village. you go into a phone booth and lift the phone and the wall of the booth opens to let you in. like you're agent 86 or some s**t.

I would say this is pretty unique. As we are the birthplace of Hip-Hop, there is a Hip-Hop tour that goes through all the boroughs to important places in NY Hip-Hop history. You can find out more at http://hushtours.com

PDQ is good. The Back Room and The BEAST are two other hidden LES bars if you're bored some weekend.

What I'm looking for is stuff like the Ice Room at Mehanatta. $20 all you can drink for 2 minutes but you have to wear a Russian soldier outfit.

Or LiveIn Theatre's walking murder mystery theatre show through the streets of Manhattan. Stuff that is only doable in NYC. I'm putting together a site that I'll post shortly, but it will have deals for the best of these types of unique NYC merchants.

Speaking of tours, this website (great resource for those who want to see the vestiges of old NYC) gives them every few months. Not the usual
tourist spots.

And someone not as cool as you are can get in too?

I figure that I would just get an f'n dial tone.

i alwaya thought bar 89 on mercer street was cool with the fog-up unisex bathrooms. here's a review:

Profile

In case you haven't heard: As palatial as Grecian bathhouses, Bar 89's unisex stalls have glass doors that are transparent until you lock them, an action that magically renders them opaque. But cool as they are, the potties can't entirely explain this place's popularity. The chocolate martinis are delicious, and the bar snacks irresistible enough. But we suspect that the real secret of Bar 89's success has something to do with—dare we say?—democracy. Call it SoHo lite: The stark, glass-and-aluminum loft aesthetic feels chic enough, but it's familiar (you've seen it in dozens of movies) and accessible to anyone able and willing to pay $10 to $15 for a drink. Or maybe it really is just the bathrooms.

Good suggestion on the tours. Any of you guys ever been to La Esquina in Kenmare Square? You walk through an employee only door, down stairs, through the kitchen and it opens up into a huge underground bar/restaurant

The hidden bar through the back wall of DoubleCrown on 2nd Ave is great too. One of the better bars in the city if you're looking for something classy. Little Branch is another unmarked door place with prohibition style drinks in the West Vill.
