Not sure if this has been talked about before but Tommy Dee (I know, I know) is reporting that Curry has a 15% or $5 mill, which ever is greater, trade kicker in his contract. If that is true, it would explain (1) why he is impossible to trade even beyond the fact that he is worthless as a player; and (2) why Curry is not taking a buyout. Curry probably assumes that there is a decent chance the Knicks will include him in a trade to bring in more talent, which means Curry would get a nice fat $5 million bonus just for sticking around. So to Curry, taking a buyout would not just mean the $1-$2 million he would lose, but also he would be losing the potential to get an extra $5 mil if he got traded. Thus, there is no way he is taking a buyout this year for anything less than his full salary.
Edit** I just noticed that someone mentioned this in another Curry thread that was not focused trade kicker. It looks like Tommy Dee is wrong and Curry's trade kicker is only 15%. Even so, Curry still would be walking away from a potential extra $1.5 mil if he accepted a buyout.
