I guess that means he was not already working for the Knicks, eh Ike?

not necessarily. howard beck wrote he was "never fired." as i wrote above, in other words he was getting paid by the knicks already, but wasn't "officially" with the team. this was going to be a more formal announcement.

why would beck make that up?

No...What it means is that he was taking more heat for this position then anything he has been associated with in his entire career..this made the National NEWS

Guess it means that the NBA would not allow the Move so Isiah could not accept the Job. Guess it also means that this will force Dolan's hand to make Isiah the GM quicker.

I think this is great news. I thought the position would change to full time and he would leave FIU.

Walsh is 69 years old and Dolan must exercise his option by March 31. We aren't out of the woods yet. Not by a longshot.

It's just nothing to worry about right now. But in a year or 2 from now we will be on pins and needles to see who dumbass Dolan selects as his new GM.

And for whatever it's worth, Stephen A Smith (called LeBron to Miami) says that Dolan is hellbent on bringing Isiah Thomas back to the organization and that his return is inevitable.

what concerns me is if the nba looks into this and determines the knicks were in violation (paying this guy while he has been at college) how they might punish the team... IT has said he was under contract still -- perhaps his contract was far more limited and didnt require/cover player recruitment and this is how he was still under contract with no violation. it isnt clear to me what he was doing (contract wise). it does seem clear the announced "new" contract the knicks handled poorly simply cuz they didnt even check with the league before saying anything.

is it possible he resigned upon taking the fiu job?

GO TEAM VENTURE!!!!!

Statement from MSG:

NEW YORK, Aug. 11, 2010 – The following statement was released today by Madison Square Garden Executive Chairman, James L. Dolan:

"Although I'm disappointed that Isiah will not be working with the Knicks as a consultant, I continue to believe in his basketball knowledge, including his ability to judge talent. He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team. We wish him continued success at FIU. I also believe Donnie Walsh has done a terrific job since joining the Knicks and my tremendous respect for him has only grown since he's joined the organization. I'm confident that the work that Donnie, Coach Mike D'Antoni and their staffs have done this summer has the team poised for long-term success."

Great news! VERY happy about this. For once the NBA has a spine and does something that benefits us.

But I agree with most - we are not out of the woods yet. As long as Isiah Thomas is alive, there will always be a chance. Which is why I hope an alligator eats him or he takes more pills this time. Don't really care if that offends some of you so save it.

is it possible the media is blowing this whole thing out of proportion and Isiah was really just going to be giving advice and never considered for GM?

That's how I read it, anyway.

You are bad person to wish these horrible things to happen with alligator. Pure reptile does not deserve this punishment.
