Looks like Prokhorov is leaving the "Nets" name in NJ and filed for a new one.

A NetsDaily translation of the full Forbes Russia interview with Mikhail Prokhorov reveals the team plans a name change once it moves to Brooklyn, and that in fact documents seeking approval for the change have been submitted to the NBA. He didn't disclose the name.

In the NetsDaily translation of the interview, provided by a Russian-speaking fan, Prokhorov is asked "What will be the team's name after the move to Brooklyn?" His response: "I can not tell you right now, but the documents are already submitted to the NBA office. The name change will happen in 2012 season."

I don't think "New York Nets" is too bad. We'll see in two years (tentatively). New name also means new colors, new logos, new gear, etc.

If it were me, I'd name them the Hoops.

It's reminiscent of Nets, but with more street cred, and the double O's are reflective of Brooklyn.

Good, Nets are a pretty awful generic name. If I recall, the only reason it was named like that was so that NY would have 3 teams with rhyming schemes (Mets, Jets, Nets). Pretty f'ing retarded if you ask me.

yea arkrud has a point, ballers might not be professional enough to last in the future...dodgers isnt bad considering its legacy, maybe the barons would be suitable.

But to be honest, I like the ballers, but it might be too slangish in the eyes of some.

I wonder if they will be "New York" or "Brooklyn". My money is on "New York," since they can always just wear/sell Brooklyn alternates.

no offense but that goes against everything being a Knick fan means. Knick fans are DIE HARD world famous. We don't jump bandwagons!
