With LeBron and his Circle of Douches heading to Miami to do shots off of strippers' midriffs at Pat Riley's bungalow, a question occurred to me:

Would you rather have had Lebron and Maverick Carter and all the rest of those clowns in NY with an easier path to a title or do you prefer the current underdog Knicks team, led by Amare, a guy who really seems to be a class act and is genuinely enthused to be here?

I know it's been so long since we've had a title around these parts, but some of my fondest sports memories are of the Knicks of yesteryear (94 and 99) who shocked everyone but came up short of a championship. LeBron would have certainly presented a realistic shot at the crown, but I have to say, knowning what we know now, isn't it easy to pull for our current roster?

Or is it all about the rings, no matter what manner of asshat plays for our team?

After what I have transpired. I am happy we did not get that douche to stain our beloved jerseys. I am happy with Amare. Ecstatic even. I think DLee is our Herschel Walker. The Cowgirls traded Herschel for a boatload of players that helped them get their championships. AR, Turiaf and Azubuike are very good pieces for our TEAM.

i think you would have gotten two very different answers to this question pre and post 'decision'.

at then end of the day, its about championships so i would think - lebron and his douches would be welcomed w open arms anyway

I'll play Sour Grapes with the best of them. Of course we're better off without King Douche and his merry henchmen.

Seriously, we do have team we all can root for and it will be great to win some more and watch our guys improve, even if a title's not in the cards for a few more years.

When i started a thread back in may about LBJ and his goons, people said that these were his child hood friends and there not like the Marbury clan.

I beg the differ, marburys Clan never made him look like an idiot, he did that on his own, LBJ clan made him look like jerk and his image took a severe hit, IMO more then the kobe's rape case, cause nobody really belived her anyway.

We have to move on. I root for the Knicks regardless of who plays on the team. It doesn't matter if it is LeBron or if it is Felton. We root for the team and the players that are on the team we root for. Championship would have been easier to attain had LeBron come here but we watch sports for the competition. Competition is the basis for the reason we watch sports without it, is it any fun? This team if everything goes as plan and the players turn the corner will be fun to watch and they will be competitive and that is all we can ask for.

Well we may already have 2 more All Stars to go with him in Gallo n AR. I wouldn't assume we know their ceiling yet.

As for Lebron, I wanted him and both he and Amare n Gallo would've been awesome. I hate him now only cuz he didn't come. I do like this team tho and we don't have to deal with his entourage. Tho I'll route for this team with high hopes, this isn't better than having Lebron.

Funny thing is now we know he's not a true leader type and can't take the pressure, so in that regard we may have been lucky. We'll see. I like this team and I have faith we can still be a Title contender.

You do know that he is not "here by himself," and none of us know how certain players (read Gallo and AR) on the team will develop or how the group we have may, or may not gel as a team.

Lets see how the season plays out. I like the group we have, and I think there is a good deal of growth potential with the team we have if our core can play together a few years and guys mature physically and as players.

I wanted James here as much as anyone, but the whole Decision thing was a fraud, and if he had done the same thing knowing that he was going to be a Knick for 2/3 years, I would have been embarrassed having him on our team with his attitude.

The Decision was a defining moment for the Scheme Team, and for those 3 guys, nothing emerged from the ordeal that should make them feel proud of themselves.

...and to be honest- I would rather lose with a good bunch of guys than win with a bunch of ****heads who I could not like or admire.

The thing is- how good would we have been with basically just Lebron and Stat joining us? We'd have had no money left over to fill in any other positions in the roster, so I presume our roster would have been:

PG- TD
SG- Chandler
SF Lebron
PF- Gallo
C- Amar'e

Bench: Bill Walker, Fields, JJ, Rautins, Curry

It's difficult to see who else we could have signed for the minimum, really- how good would that team have been?

That's a very succinct framing of the question. Thanks.

What's more important? The rings? Or a team that tries hard and you can get behind and improves? If it's "ring at all costs," then you've got yourself the Heat, likely the most hated pro-team in all of sports and a squad that will be laughed at as failures if they fail to snag the title.

I would have liked to see an Amare/Lebron vs Wade/Bosh war for the next 6 years. I think that could have been entertaining. That said, I prefer this team to that douchy triad-- (admittedly, I was pushing for the Knicks to do the same thing the Heat did-- but I really didn't think about how terribly those three come across). I like Felton walking in and saying he is a warrior. I like Amare saying that he wants to be here (before any other player named any other place). I like the three players we got for David Lee. I think we can run havoc on a lot of teams, including the Heat. It is my express desire that the Heat become the Jailblazers of this era.

I like MisterEarls summary of the three forwards domains--- Amare down low, Randolph in the mid range and Gallo on the fringe. They need a super athletic SG to stop other teams from switching the SG onto Gallo (and Gallo needs a low post game if and when they do)-- Chandler can be guarded by SFs and doesn't cause that mismatch.

Otherwise, this team is ready to roll.

there's something appealing about watching a young, promising come up together and learn to play with one another... there is definite appeal to this team. But it's easy to say that now and I certainly would've taken the Queen and his Chambermaids

Its time to stop the Lebron hate. Had he said he's "taking his talents to Broadway" nobody would be complaining. He didn't rob/steal or cheat anyone. Get over it.

Truthfully, when The Decision was announced I began to almost hope that he WOULDN'T choose MSG. The content of his character really started to come into focus during that cluster-F. I'm not upset that he bypassed NY. The reason I think he's an insufferable dick is what he did to Cleveland. It takes a special kind of a-hole to humiliate a long-suffering Rust Belt city on national TV. And that, primarily, is why I will take much joy in every loss the Heat endures.

We have explained the salary cap numerous times in numerous threads. Do you know how the Heat are consistently signing Veteran Free Agents, even though they are capped out? You could fill the roster with the Veteran's exemption, like the Heat have done.

if Lebron would have manned up to the challenge of playing in NY, there's no way i wouldn't have preferred that over what we have now, but i'm not upset he didn't choose us after how he revealed himself this summer... i want guys that aren't afraid to step up & take on that leadership mantle... Lebron is free to have his fun on South Beach, that's his right, but the way he handled himself w/this whole situation was disappointing.

Initially wanting Lebron but being happy with our current situation is fine. We just lie and say we wouldn't have been ecstatic if Lebron came, cuz we would! The thing is that his decision revealed things about Lebron that we didn't know for sure. There were doubts about his mentality and if he was up to the challenge of being THE MAN. Now we know he didn't like the pressure and prefers to be part of the pack. Wade is more of an Alpha Male and Lebron n Bosh are not. We'll be in good shape for the future as well, so I'm happy and this could be a blessing in disguise.
