Heat build House into supporting cast

MIAMI -- Eddie House's agent says the veteran guard has agreed to terms on a $2.8 million, two-year contract with the Miami Heat.

Agent Mark Bartelstein said Thursday that the second year is a player option.

House was a second-round draft pick by the Heat in 2000 and spent his first three NBA seasons with them. He has since played for eight other teams, including Boston and New York last season, when he averaged 7.0 points in 68 games off the bench.

The Celtics and Bulls were among several teams that showed interest in House this offseason.

His career average is 7.6 points, and he's a 39 percent shooter from 3-point range, with a reputation for making clutch baskets.

House will be a strong contender for a reserve role as part of the Heat's supporting cast for Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Great addition to frusrate lebron and Wade.
I am sure they will want to kill him for his "clutch" shots.

how is eddie house any different of a player than he's always been?

im not sure how a role-player whose job is to hit 3's becomes a washed-up bum... doesn't make much sense. he'll do a good job for miami.

There is a reason why Boston traded him and why he was complete garbage here. Eddie House isn't a rotation player anymore.

you're not really telling me anything here. how is he complete garbage? what is he doing worse than he was? the only thing the guy does is shoot 3's and was doing a fine job of it with boston before they traded him here and honestly are you surprised he played badly here? you go from a contender to one of the worst in the league, you're going to lose your edge.

guys like house get traded all the time, it doesn't mean he's a garbage.

He is a 3 pt specialist, same as he has ever been.

I don't know how you can settle for him taking the "clutch" shots on a team with Wade and Bron though.

A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Agreed. I think he's a good addition to Miami.

Eddie House has fallen to "Streak Shooter" status. He can kill you when he's on and kill his team when he's off. He has to do it in the gym this off-season to be ready. If not, it's bye-bye Eddie

32 years old and not the greatest athlete to begin with- don't think he has much left in his tank.

As someone already pointed out- there is a reason why Boston traded him... and a reason why they do not seem to have made any kind of serious gesture to resign him

I think Eddie will be a good fit for them.

How the heck do the Heat have all this cap room? The NBA salary cap is a joke.

House can give you the occasional clutch basket. "Clutch" doesn't always mean its gotta be the last shot.

You can have a clutch basket with 5:04 left in the game, and House can hit that once in a while.

Looks like a vet minimum contract which is allowable.

I really don't care much for House, my concern is how the hell are the Heat sign people to contracts? If their big three take up most of their cap space and Miller and Haslem are taking up some of the cap how are they signing House for 2.8 mill over two?

Don't you think at some point Stern gotta eventually say something along the lines of...."Geeze guys, you know, only so many guys can chase a ring on one team.".

When you got so many guys tripping over themselves to play on one team, it get to the point of just being stupid. And when you got guys taking so much less than market value to do it, the union can't be happy.

The Heat have went from the equivilant of the modern day Bucks to the Showtime Lakers in one year.

Players want to play for the Yankees for the money. No one is giving them discounts.

Isn't $2.8 million over 2 years much higher than vet minimum? That's almost an LLE contract.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.
