Take a look at Williams contract and look yourself in the mirror as you contemplate 2011 Free Agency. If you're going to take on salary it should be for a pretty good player. Truthfully not a single player we're picking up from Philly solves our 2 guard need. Yes they can all play the role in some fashion but they aren't real 2 guards.

What's your thoughts on maintaining max salary cap space for next year? Louis Williams contract would put a damper on that. Do you see him as a player with tremendous upside-- cause although I've never thought of him like that, I'd listen to the pitch. Basically, my mentality is to preserve space for that max slot next year, unless you can acquire the same talent this year without giving up much.

Im glad to keep a flexible cap. But I cannot operate like we have the last two years and if we do its a mistake. Louis Williams would be awesome here--something like what JC did for Atlanta plus he can truly play 1 guard to back up Felton. We enhance our 3 point arsenal and outside shooting with Kapono and Green. Miami Chicago et al--were able to remove small amounts if cap easy--so can we. We cannot operate a team trying to win NOW with the hope that someone else is coming ---we can be flexible towards it but cannot fully operate like that again--learn from your mistakes.

I don't know that Louis Williams does it for me though. Another tweener guard. I think one of the strengths the Knicks should continue to look for is length. In long term dollars, we are swapping TD for Williams. Not sure that I am sold on Williams enough to want to pay $4M more per year to fill the same role. Williams is clearly better right now, but I'd give TD some more time.

Louis Williams has to be a chance to be a star guard playing this way and he's 23. TD is NO where near the athlete nor does he have the true potential that Louis is coming into right now.Sometimes we must view other players--this guy is a nasty player waiting to happen.

Ouch.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

seriously...I like Toney Douglas as the back up combo guard...that's essentially what Louis Williams would be...Willie Green doesn't play with Walker, Wilson, and Buike on the team...Kapono might see time but he's behind those names too.

FAIL!!!

All right up the stakes Igudola and Williams for the same package.

I dunno if Philly would do that now that they have Doug Collins...I think they wanna give him a chance to get these guys back on track...I think they would do it if Collins wasn't there.

I don't like this one at all Briggs.

I do like Williams and love Kapono's stroke but I don't like giving up the expiring at all and to give the picks is really bad.

Williams may or may not be an upgrade vs Douglas on offense but he's definitely NOT up to snuff defensively.

Kapono I like but for $2M a year -- not the $6M or so he makes right now. Willie Green -- why -- don't we already have Buike to play a similar role.

Plus 2 potentially high seconds and a future 1 --- craziness.

I'd much rather simply go get Rudy Fernandez for a 3rd the cost and without giving up picks or Eddy's expiring.

We'd still be over-paying because we are taking on Iggy's long term deal and cutting off our cap flexibility.

That said Iggy and Williams would be a fun package to incorporate into speed ball.

That would be one athletic ass team.

Felton
Iggy
Gallo
Amare
Turiaf

Williams
Buike
Chandler
Randolph
Mozgov

Yes i agree with you--that was too much--but the theory stays the same--i would do the same deal for Igudola and Williams.(and I ll take Green for outside shooting for a salary dump for them

That would give me

Randolph
Stoudemire
Gallo
Igudola
Felton
Chandler
Fields
Williams
Asubike
Green
that can be a championship team.

I say push the pedal.

Green and Kapono expire after this coming season anyway according to Hoopshype. Philly doesn't need to dump them. I like Williams, but combo guards like him are always coming out the NCAA, D-League etc. I would definitely consider trading for Iggy. But would Philly consider doing that trade prior to the start of the season?

I would definitely do this first deal--but after thinking about it--maybe just one 2nd rounder. I want to enhance the bench--that is key. and if we go for it--that is cool too. 5 days into the season Carmelo Anthony signs a 6 year deal with Denver--then what?

you don't want to trade for CP3, but you wanna give up longterm cap space & future picks to go after Lou Williams... wow.
