Durant recently took a far different route than James when he agreed to a contract extension two weeks ago with the Thunder, a deal worth $86 million over five years. He didn't do a television special. He merely sent a message to his followers on Twitter. "I told somebody the other day LeBron James is the biggest name in sports and anything he does is not going to be quiet, so you can't blame him for what happened and how he made his decision," Durant said. "I'm a little different. Nobody knows our team so nobody cared where I was going." Las Vegas Review-Journal

Oklahoma City Thunder, LeBron James, Kevin Durant | share
"I like being with our team," he said. "When I came into the league, I said I wanted to be with one team my whole career. You never know what can happen, but I love our team and I think we're moving in the right direction

Durant is a different young man. Naturally he is getting attention for it, but this is what he has been about before the summer.

I saw him interviewd months ago with him walking thru his Oklahoma neighborhood and he just seems like a 20 year old kid very much aware of his gifts and good fortune but still aware he is still young and much to learn. Not just on the court, but in life.

Thunder by putting together a young team has created something special and reason for its young core to stay. Maybe its the same reason Lebron seeks "Comrades" to go to battle with. Thats fine but lebron has allowed such a big image of himself to be created its evident he is not entirely comfortable with it.

Thats fine BTW, but "The Decision" was far from that and at his expense he embarassed 5 NBA teams and humiliated Cleveleand's fans and his owner who might not be the best man, but I don't see how he ever was negligent in his efforts. Cavs won a lot of games the last 4 years. ITs not like he was held hostage by a contract in a losing situation.

Enough of Lebron, kudo's to Durant who I would imagine will continue to be happy so long as they continue their growth and winning ways. Maybe in 5 years he will thing otherwise.

The Thunder have peaked my interest and I will follow them. They are not my "new" team. My ties (Scars?) are to the knicks.

it's pretty hard to not like the way kevin durant is turning out, both as a player and a person. so glad that there is someone to be the anti-lebron in the nba. very easy to root for a kid like durant.

Funny, this team has a special bond and a special kid exibiting a nice "loyalty" of sorts.

Yet its the very nature of deceit that took the Sonics to become the Thunder?

This kid and this team could have gotten a groundswell movment to get a new arena done.

Ironic?

Hope he does not change.

I remember posting a Sports Illustrated article where James said he wanted to stay in Ohio and was not looking to move to another team to chase a ring. The only thing that will never change is that we will always have/see change.

OKC seems to be building a pretty team in a more traditional way. Don't know if the Harden pick is going to pan out, but they have a lot of talent on that team.

Rooted for them against the Lakers last year- predicted they would beat them, actually, so you have to take what I say with a grain of salt, but they seem to be moving in the right direction.

Kevin Durant: Kevin Durant made news earlier this month when he announced his contract extension with the Thunder via his Twitter account, an utter contrast to the hoopla and hype surrounding LeBron James' decision to sign as a free agent with the Miami Heat.

"I keep telling people my situation was a little different than the other guys. I'm a quiet guy, a low-key guy, so I chose that way," Durant said. "LeBron James is the biggest name in sports, so you can't blame him for what happened and how he made his decision."

I don't understand people either Kevin, they created the monster, but didn't want to hear him roar.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Strange- I heard some squeaks and giggles coming out of South Beach...but no "roar," and for some reason I keep on thinking of the Wizard of Oz and the Cowardly LeBron Lion.

I think Durant has propelled himself to superstardom.

The NBA now has 3 megastars. Kobe, Lebron, and Kevin.

He's probably going to win the scoring title averating 29+ ppg since Kobe will be looking at 27 ppg and Lebron at maybe 24-25 ppg.

2 scoring titles at 21 and 22 years old is pretty damn impressive.

Lebron or Wade ? I'll let you pick.

But really, at this point I take Durant over Wade any day of the week. He's a much prolific scorer, although I'll give Wade the clutch factor. But the kid is 21 years old man. Wade's got 12,000 points. With his style of play, and injury concerns does he ever even reach 20,000?

Durant is seriously threatening Kobe and Lebron in the points department.

Stupid, stupid Portland! They didn't learn from past mistake of passing on Jordan. IMO Durant had shown every sign of being a great player and Odom was raw too. I know it was a tough choice but given their unique perspective you'd think they would make the right choice this time.

Portland has selected 2 bigs instead of the elite guard/wing player in MJ and Durant.

aw i didn't fault portland. oden at the time looked like a potential dominating big to anchor that franchise for a long long time.

Portland has selected 2 brittle bigs instead of the elite guard/wing player in MJ and Durant.

Fixed it.

Amazing when you think of how the first mistake changed the course of the NBA as we know it, and their second mistake may be seen in the same way someday.

yeah, he becomes the new face of the league next season...bank on it.

Stern is pissed at lebron and can't possible be happy about the miami situation. He contacted LB's people and Espn to let them know it was a bad idea to start only for them to ignore him and subject us to some crap that was fubar

Wade will be guilty by association (at the least)and will also lose some of his Media viability where Stern is concerned.

Durant will be one of those who benefit for LB's narcissism

all of this is just opinion of course

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt
