Some dude on the ESPN board said David Aldridge reported that Philly is interested in receiving Charlie Ward and Othella Harrington for Matt Geiger.

They must unload Geiger in order to match new jersey's offer for Todd McCulloch. They have until 11:59 p.m. friday to do so and new york may be the place Geiger is headed.

Also, new york seems to be the frontrunner to get Shammond Williams so they are willing to part with Ward without receiving a point guard in return. Geiger can be a very productive back-up for Marcus Camby and thats why this seems to be a pretty good deal for us. Thoughts?

I don't think that Philly is under any deadline to unload Geiger. Why would a trade with NY free them up to match the Nets offer? Geiger's salary would pretty much have to match Ward's and Harrington's.

Plus I'd rather be loaded with front court people, than adding more backcourt players. They already have Iverson, Snow, McKie, Raja Bell, and Speedy Claxton...no room for Ward.

I think someone on the ESPN board is making stuff up.

The Sixers deadline to trade Geiger is friday night if they want to keep McCulloch or at least match the offer for him. If Geiger is traded, that will also convince TMac the Sixers want to keep him and make him the primary back-up for Mutombo. I think there's about a 75 percent chance Geiger is traded and new york seems to be first in line. Philly originally wanted Rice for Geiger, but felt the pressure of TMac which allowed them to lower their cost. If Layden can pull this one off, it will be the first time i congratulate him on a good trade. Judging on how he's doing so far, i think he's due for one.

yea the point of geiger bein traded is ensuring to todd macullogh that he will get PT, and not jus ride the bench waiting for geiger or mutombo to get injured

yes, but Philly doesn't need to be in a rush to trade Geiger. They can wait for a trade situation they feel is good. MaCullogh is theirs to retain just by matching the Nets offer.

Remember, MaCullogh is a restricted free agent, so they don't need to sway him by promising playing time. They just need to match the offer.

yea but not too many people are interested in geiger. and sixers would like to trade for rice straight up, salaries match as do years. for sixers rice provides scoring off the bench or even starting that they need, and for us it gives us size instead of perimeter glut. geiger is hardly the center that will dominate the east, camby is a more complete player.

Does anyone know how much Geiger has played over the past few years? Seems like every time he stubs a toe he goes on to the IR. For now, I'll take Rice and Felton Spencor as a backup big man. Plus, if Rice does come back from the foot injury and plays well, especially considering the new zone rules, he would be big-time trade fodder later in the year.

thats true too, all we are looking for is a backup center, no one that wants minutes and shots, but is willing to play and back up camby. if we re-sign spencer, i believe we should trade rice for derrick coleman. we dont need rice right now, and colemans contract will end earlier, giving us significant cap relief in 9 mil in two years. still though i suppose it wont matter because well end up screwing ourselves for the next 10 years under knicks management signing these oldies for 5-6 year contracts....

Geiger is another has been. Would rather see Evan Eschmeyer or even Jelani McCoy. Geiger may take back up minutes, but giving Philly the outside weapon without getting Snow in the package seems fruitless and stupid. Well there you go. This is assured as Layden must do something stupid. We will either get Geiger or Baker even Coleman.
Whatever dunce is out there will end up here making mega bucks.
Would love to see a decent point guard here though...Shammond where are you???

good idea, those big bodies that were dumped by other teams liek jelani mccoy would be fine. i hear shammond williams isnt really a point guard, more like a young version of charlie ward, a small shooting guard.

You know...I read some of the stuff that I wrote and I am surprised how interested I was in the Knicks. Now I could care less. These Knicks have made me dead inside.
