Lakers Interested In Signing Undrafted Rookie Jeremy Lin
More Lakers News

Jul 19, 2010 7:59 PM EST

The Lakers are interested in signing Jeremy Lin.

The opened contract discussions with Roger Montgomery, Lin's agent, over the weekend.

"We're just trying to sort out the best roster fit, the best situation for Jeremy, but we're highly considering the Lakers," Montgomery said in a phone interview Monday.

Montgomery said the Lakers aren't the only team vying for Lin, with the Mavericks and an unnamed Eastern Conference team also in the mix. Added Montgomery: "As of late there are a few more players involved as well."

Pretty clear indication of an agent using a major market to leverage more money for his client. He's just trying to get better offers for Lin, I'm sure there's a lot more teams interested in Lin now than just the Lakers.

If you say just one guy--then you are buts--it takes a team to win---guys like Artest Bynum Odom Fischer--how good was La a few years ago with Nick Van exel and Kobe 43 wins?

That team didn't have Phil or Shaq either....Eddie Jones was starting ahead of Kobe Bryant too early on.

slight correction - actually having Kobe as a high schooler essentially demanding a trade to LA with the threat of playing in Europe to back it up went a large way to helping LA win all their recent titles.

God- why can't we get a young player who is readily identified as a 'best talent' demand to play in NYC or not anywhere?

They win titles because its in the best interest of the NBA that the Lakers win. That is why they receive gifts from other teams. If you guys stop and think for a second, think of the NBA as one giant entity not individual teams. Then and only then you will realize why it is so important that Lakers always are a good team. As soon as Kobe walks away the Lakers will have the next already lined up through FA or draft.

We did, he was called Rubio (not the same level though). Minny tried to call his bluff, except he wasn't bluffing.

Let me put this another way....

The Lakers are great because they are showing an interest in an undrafted free agent that also happens to be someone Briggs likes.

It's easy to like Lin based on the summer but please stop with the Laker love ---- they are the same team that picked up the Mustache and started Luke Walton and Sasha a year or so ago.

Other poster was correct -- West made great trade for Kobe and Memphis gave Gasol to Lakers --- pretty straight forward.

No great organization that has had great insight at all facets of team building for many years. They owned the draft from position 43 and 59 and are probably getting the best undrafted rookie.

And they picked up Morrison to dump Radman--salary dump

Well have to see about that one. 7 footers tend to dunk the ball rather well:)

Jeremy Lin may end up being a nice little role player surrounded by star talent. He may not. Picking him up is NOT what makes the Lakers great. This is a silly thread.

cuz LA is like NY (if you've never lived in either place..they're essentially just big cities) with better weather and less clothing on the girls.

Honestly we haven't made the playoffs since the new millenium.

The last great trade we made was trading Starks and scraps for Spree and Oakley for Camby.

F the Mecca...why would anyone WANT to come here other than being ridiculously overpaid?

With the winning will come:

- Young Free Agents looking for a franchise on the way UP in a good city (NOT Milwaukee, Minnesota, etc)
- (last stage) the veterans who sign for a discount looking for a championship.

I don't even know where the Lin kid fits in with Felton/TD but I'd love to see him make TD step up and I'm sure they'd have some BATTLES in practice.

Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please

agree..and then the best gm we've had recently who made these great trades gets fired by dave checketts in a power struggle with jeff van gundy..oh how the knick fortunes would have been different if grunfeld stayed and the overrated van gundy had been fired..grunfeld would have started by drafting ron artest over fred weis..

This is why the Lakers win championships--moves like this and owning the draft despite picking 43+58
