Our hope is to have Melo on our team at some point this season via sign-and-trade, as i believe one way or another he signs that extension, and i hope it is under the condition that he is traded to New York. That being said, who ends up getting traded for him? I believe Denver would demand Gallo and Randolph, along with Curry's contract and future compensation, however, with their backs against the wall, we will likely substitute one of those two with Chandler. Which is a better option, trading Gallo and Chandler, or Randolph and Chandler?

You have to think of some long term factors when figuring this out. Is Randolph a center in the future, because Amare wants to play PF. Also, can Melo play SG with Gallo at SF? I believe trading Randolph will be the better option because Gallo is our homegrown talent, plus is a better fit as a shooter, and i believe Melo can effectively play SG. Looking at our roster after a move like this, it looks like this

C Turiaf, Mozgov, Jordan
PF Stoudemire
SF Gallinari, Fields
SG Anthony, Azubuike, Walker
PG Felton, Douglas, Rautins

We can have Turiaf and Mozgov each play 20-24 minutes a game and move Stoudemire to C while going with a small lineup. I think this team can win 55 games in a full season and make it to the eastern conference finals at the very least.

If we trade for Carmelo, guaranteed Gallo is part of the deal. Carmelo is not a SG, you can forget that. He's a natural SF which means no room for Gallo. Denver would not want Chandler which is good for us. Chandlers a better defender that GAllo.

Stoudimire is our PF so GAllo wouldn't move to that position either.

pg felton
sg Chandler
cen turiaf
pf stoudiamre
sf Carmelo

I believe we're getting Paul in a trade sometime in the middle of the season and Carmelo next yrs free agent class.

That's all well and good but not 1 shooter is in that lineup. Chandler doesn't fit, 1 wing needs to be a deadly shooter.

Nothing fits imho....getting Carmelo is going to take an overhaul of the roster....is it really worth it? Melo and Stat would be an incredible 3-4 combo. Still the Knicks would have to trade Gallo and Randolph. Also keep in mind Wilson is gonna be a free agent next season. Its kinda nuts.

why would DEN acquiesce to signing Melo to an extension if it's only under the condition that he's traded to NY? they could get much more in return by trading Melo to other teams than just Wilson Chandler & Gallo or AR... the only way that happens is if Melo comes out & says he's going to sign with NY after the season's over regardless of where he goes, & i highly doubt he would do that... & more importantly, why would Melo sign an extension right now for $80M when he could get more if he waits to sign as a FA?

Isn't this 80 mil similar to the dollars offered to Joe Johnsona his initial offer. Dude wound up with 119 mil over 5 or 6 years. Unless something happens in CBA, the UFA has all the chips on his side of the table, esecially Melo, who will be the #1 target this upcoming FA period.

agreed... i don't see why Melo wouldn't ride out the process just like Lebron & the other bignames did this summer... why settle for less now when you're pretty much guaranteed a bigger payday later? Melo knows that as long as he keeps stringing NY along just like Lebron did the past 2 years, that the big payday will always be there... he knows that DEN will be waiting with a full max extension once he opts out next summer also... if he wants to go & play for titles, he can afford to play out the year in DEN & watch to see what teams out there make a big push & who peaks his interest for the summer, & particularly if he can envision winning a championship with the Knicks after how they are able to perform this season with their new additions... there is no upside to Melo cashing out now to play in NY this season other than spending more time with his new wife.

I'd rather take our chances with just signing Melo as an FA without giving anything up. He can leave $ on the table and sign with us outright if it means the team he is joining is stronger vs getting 1 more year and playing minus the talent that leaves in a S&T
Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please
