What you failed to take into account is that Toney was shooting badly because he was concentrating on a new role of distributing the ball. Now this year, Rautins is thinking about converting himself into a point guard. In light of last year's mistake, wouldn't it make sense to give Rautins a bit more time to see how he plays when he gets a bit more comfortable with his new role. Whats the rush?
I know where Briggs is coming from even if I am not ready to reach his conclusion yet. Drafting someone gives you control over their future, and there were a number of players we might have taken along with Fields, who we now look at as one of the steals in the draft.
I am not a Lance Stephenson fan, but there were big men available, including Caracter and Gani Lawal (two bangers), Alabi, who is a better athlete than Jordan, Willie Warren, a guard who is a better athlete than Rautins, and did well at the shooting portion of the Combine, or even Varnado, the shot blocker- someone I did not want, but who had his fans around here.
At this time it seems that 1/3 or our guys are NBA ready, and you can make a case that there were better, NBA ready, players out there to take.
