hey after this is answered feel free to lock it if need be

Just been wondering, in light of the news that a lockout is a possibility, does the locked out year count towards the years on a contract?

For instance, after this year, Amare will have 4 yrs left. After the locked out year will he have 3 years left....or 4?

Thanks

Yes, whether it's a lock out all season or not, it still counts as a year of the contract (which I is based on time rather than full seasons played). I hate lock outs so much- not knowing whether they'll happen or how long they'll last, some players get fat in the layoff time (I think the last lock out destroyed the career of Shawn Kemp among others) etc etc. it's just a sheer waste. Though the last lock out shortened season resulted in us getting to the finals!

hypothetically, if a guy has a one year team option for after this coming season and the 2011-12 season is not played at all, how would they address that?

Then he's a free agent after the season would have ended- the contracts will specify dates, not x number of years, a lockout will not alter when their contract ends.
