He's coming off an injury and he has to rehabilitate his image, but this is a quality player and a very good defender. Do you think he'd take 1 year deal for our remaining cap space (I think its around 5-6 mil), to join the Knicks? He'll get to play in a good wide open system and boost his value back up. We'd get a solid contributor in the near term to be more competetive. I think its a pretty good match.

We have a lot of G/SF types already though between Chandler, Azebuke, Walker, and Gallo though. Do we really need another wing player?

On the other hand Howard is way better than any of those except maybe Gallo. Can he play SG and is he a good 3 point shooter?

A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Howard is not better than azubuike, Azubuike is explosive and is a decent shooter

I was thinking the same thing as simrud. I'd like to play the young guys and, at this point, I'm not sure Howard brings that much more.

Howard is an established guy who played no.2/3 for a consistent playoff team and team that regularly won more than 50 games when he was there. He's a really good defender and can score. I think you can make a place for him in the lineup if he's willing to sign a short term deal because he can help you make the playoffs.

He's coming off a big injury and had a bad break with Dallas so he has something to prove, but he could be one of the better bargain signings this offseason because of that. Based on the level of play he had established with Dallas prior to last year he could've been looking at more like 10-12 mil per.

If the Knicks are going to take a flyer on a guy, I'd rather it be someone like Shaun Livingston or a big. Otherwise, I'm happy keeping open cap space for when teams package picks to shed salary

given that Felton's contract is only guaranteed for two years, the team is still looking for the long term answer. I'd rather audition a point than a swing with the extra cap room, or just use the space get picks when teams go into salary dump mode

I like him a lot- he is also a decent defender, but he is coming off a significant injury, and I keep on hearing that it is not 100% sure that he will start our with us when training camp begins.

If he doesnt start training camp with us thats fine, see it as more playing time for fields and rautins to audition. But the guy is a high flyer. think of it this way. Marion was good in the d'antoni system, piece of crap everywhere else. AZU can be our marion when/if healthy

boy if he was healthy you have to say yes... big fan of his game but his play really dropped off post Dallas.

I agree with your thinking though... we need a bigtime SG. Like an all star caliber guy and I think that would solidify this group as one of the better teams in the East. I think we are about 45-48 wins now. A SG who can defend the big wings and stretch the defense would really put us up there IMO

No way. Josh Howard was great when he hustled. Once he got paid, the hustling stopped and he became mediocre. I'd rather let Wilson/Azubuike/Walker take those minutes. Same kind of players, but cheaper and still hustle.

I've watched a lot Mav games in recent years and ^this is absolutely true not to mention the guy is coming off a blown knee last year.
