According to someone in the know, team president Donnie Walsh "may possibly retire" within the week because of "health" and "a failure to land LeBron" -- a plan he sold to Cablevision owner James Dolan soon after signing a $15 million, three-year deal in April 2008.

I later learned Kevin Prichard may be the replacement.

This has been the Donnie Walsh show for the last 2 years and I hope he gets to give us a finished product. He is a very good GM and I have faith in him to make the Knicks competitive again. But if someone else takes over, I cannot be to sure.

If it is for health reasons though, I hope Walsh recovers quickly and has many healthy years.

We can't afford to lose Walsh now. This wont be good.

If he has to leave, I hope it's not for health reasons. He's a good, classy guy and I really want him to be in the best of health.

Anyway, I hope Donnie gets to walk away on his terms. If he leaved right now the team is monumentally better off than how he received it. I know he doens't have full backing around here, but that's pretty much all you can ask for

As for Pritchard, he's on of the best GMs in the game so he should've been signed immediately to fill that vacant GM spot

The man has done a great job and given NY a sense of hope; a belief that the future is actually bright.

Do you Donnie and my prayers will go out to you and your fam. Pritchard is one hell of a consolation prize IF we lose Donnie.

Last night during the press conference, thought obviously recovering, he didn't look like a guy ready to walk (or roll) away from the job just yet.

now I have to disagree. Actually Dolan, for the first time in years can take pride in his product and the decision to bring in Walsh. The dude doesn't know basketball and dropped the ball with his last 2 GM choices. We have been lambasting him for years but, lets give the man his due. As far as owners go, would you rather a guy like Sterling who is both INEPT & UNCARING?, or a guy who dumb but cares and will spend.

Dolan will spend, spend, spend and he now has the management in place to spend his $$ the right way.

I was actually happy for him during the press conference yesterday. I actually took something away from it that most probably did not. I saw a man, previously ashamed of his team and the job he's done; a man who's embarrassment forced him to avoid the media and spotlight. Now he's a man who for likly the first time in his tenure and THE MAN at MSG, he can take pride in his product and the choices he's made.

Hell, when he's not looking like he's ready to chew golf balls with his arms crossed and chin tucked into his chest, he can be rather charismatic.

Wasn't it always the case that Donnie would hire a gm? What with all the talk of Chris Mullin () and Mark Warkentien as option?

I thought Walsh was 4 year / 5th year option (now reported as a straight up 3 year contract which I think is incorrect)
I thought Mike was a 3 year / 4th year option (nothing has been reported otherwise)

Mike's contract may be up at the end of this coming season.

No reason to fire him.

Dolan is also finished with eating salary.
