Two reports linking the Orlando Magic and free agent big man Al Harrington emerged yesterday. To my knowledge, Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated was the first media member to connect the Magic with Harrington, a high-usage, low-efficiency, shoot-first veteran:
Harrington was in serious talks with Orlando that recently fell apart. Harrington looking at Utah, New Jersey and Clips.

Hours later, FanHouse's Chris Tomasson sent this Twitter message indicating that a deal might still be in the works:

There are still talks going on with Orlando about possible sign and trade being arranged & New York free agent Al Harrington going to Magic

Despite the negative reputation Harrington has as an unapologetic gunner, I understand the appeal, insofar as Harrington can score, and the Magic need shot-creators off their bench. At the same time, he's not appreciably better than incumbent backup power forward Ryan Anderson at anything, really, and the Magic's biggest need is to find a low-usage, defense-oriented perimeter player.

Don't know. Just got this link from a pal down there. He said the Magic are pushing hard to get him. Didn't even know Al was talking with them.

I would look at a Carlos Arroyo or a Livingston myself. A mature point is needed.

I like Rudy's game if we can get him. He wants to leave and we have cap space. As far as a sign and trade, I'd be happy with a low first round pick. Ryan Anderson would be a really good fit, but that's probably asking too much.

am I in the minority in wanting to bring Al back? I mean, the guy should give us a hometown discount and as a sixth man off the bench, the perfect role for him.

I'd take their 2010 1st round pick. Nothing on their current roster that they'd be willing to give up interests me

We're not going to get a great player in a sign and trade for Harrington. Orlando is grossly over the cap so they have to give us a player who's salary is within 25% of Harrington's salary - whatever that is. My guess is that Orlando will want to give us Brandon Bass, because he's the guy who will lose playing time to Harrington, unless they're unhappy with Pietrus. This could turn into a three team deal.

At this point, given the signing of Amare, the drafting of Jordan and the trade that brought us two bigs from GS, our major need is a passing point guard. So, I'd like to see another team involved.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

Reddick and Anderson work for me... I'd like another outside shooter. Suddenly, the team looks positioned to trade Curry's expiring and assets for a legitimate player

Almost every Orlando player has multi-year salaries which will eat into our salary cap for next year. Players that don't:

Reddick ($3.9 mil QO) - but we don't need him. We have young SG who can come off the bench.
Anderson($1.4 mil with team option next year $2.
Matt Barnes($1.6 mil)
and
Jason Williams - FA - could be included in the S&T? Of course Jameer Nelson would be great but I don't think Orlando will trade him.

Williams would be a nice stop gap and someone who Douglas can take lessons from.

Hometown discount? See Lebron James' version.

those top 3 fill some needs and would net Al about $8.6m - perhaps a 3 year $24m deal- not bad.

Love to get a pick.

Pick and a trade exemption is ideal. Though I will say Reddick has made strides and would be absolutely lethal in this offense with his shooting.
