"Dick Helm, Wilkens's longtime top assistant, is expected to join the Knicks. "He's very good with a veteran team," one Eastern Conference official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said of Wilkens. "His teams for the most part were high in execution, low in turnovers, very simple in what they do, but very efficient." NY Times

that right there is the reason I think our offense will go through the roof. If Lenny teaches them the fundamentals they will no longer turn the ball over any crucial times. And how many times have we heard about poor execution on offense costing us games.

just because Lenny doesnt scream doesnt mean he cant control a team. He said it best himself. When guys arent getting it they lose minutes.

All these guys will be accountable and have their roles clearly defined over the next few weeks when Lenny decides how to utilize these guys best.

Most of all I think he will stabilize things and these guys will start having fun playing the game again.

I dont understand why people on here are pissed because Lenny doesn't scream - screaming gets you nowhere...in the end people tune you out and stop listening.

The key is to have an effective message - being a good coach doesnt mean yell. And yelling doesnt make you a showtime coach either - neither does being laid back. Charisma does, Lenny is lacking there but at least he has more then Chaney and Fratello combined.

coaches are made by how they fit with their team. You cant force chemistry. Ewing ran Don Nelson out of town, last year Don won 60 games and was possibly a Dirk knee injury away from winning a title last year.

JVG was a Houston floater difference from being regarded a great coach or being fired after his first full season.

These guy might just stink as a group and tune Lenny out after a while, OR Lenny and Steph might develop one of those great relationships and Lenny brings fun back to the Garden. He gets everyone involved and there is a max effort every night that leads to a great new era. Anything can happen... sports writers are more freakin dramatic than 13 year old girls talking about who the new cute boy in school likes.

i am a teacher and i do not scream at my students. i demand respect with my demeanor. therefore, i am considered a teacher that enforce discipline and have good class control . that is how i see lenny. he does'nt have to scream. he just reacts with actions. if you are going to be a bonehead, just sit and watch everyone play. he gives them consequences for mistakes which is something chaney failed to do.

Where did you read Lenny needed to scream to have control which I believe is not an issue here. His ability to take command in producing a championship in New York is the real 64K question.

I dont think Lenny's primary hire is to teach fundamentals.

The great thing for Knick fans is at the end of the season we're going to know whether this team is good or not- the coach isn't going to be an excuse.

If Lenny 'HOF' Wilkins can't get this group to play well, then there isn't the talent that people think is now on this team.

If Chaney had coached to the end of the season and the team still stunk, we'd be left wondering whether it was the coach or talent.

Now, at least, we'll know.

I think a lot of guys wanted to see a fiery coach after Chaney's comatose style. The fans want to see the coach show some passion.

But a coach should use his natural style. Some guys are fiery and some are laid back. The question is do the players respond to him. I suspect that some players/teams need a drill-sergeant type riding them more than others do.

The same article also says Wilkens ran the same 8 or so plays, which concerns me, because we do have a lot more imaginitive players on offense now (read: Marbury). I don't doubt that he'll approach this situation differently than he did his last job, as there's a different set of skill players here. I do like that he a low turnover/low mistake guy, as turnovers have killed us not just this year, but the greater part of the decade (though we were somehow low turnover last year, mostly do to Eisley holding the ball).

Sucess to me would be just getting to the playoffs at this point. Anything else will be icing on the cake. Isiah isn't close to being done with fixing this team. He is truly looking to make us a Champoinship contender and he will do whatever it takes to get us there. Unlike, Layden who already felt we were
