to win a championship. I could make a very serious argument that not only was that big 3 vastly superior to what the Heat now have BUT that that team also had nice role players which this Heat team wont have.

There is only 1 70 win team in the history of basketball --a team that was not only great but deep.

That is why the Pistons were so good they were able to bring waves of players at you and keep fresh and wear you down. And that is the strategy that i would employ making a team right now 10-12 deep. 1 Injury can change a whole lot quite fast. I do wish we had a coach that emphasized D+R and used more depth but I have to think that his own common sense must kick in on how to run this team.

These guys are young. They have a lot of time to put a supporting cast around them.

A lot of people seem to compare the 3 signing in miami to the Celtics, and are declaring it would result in a championship every year, but tehre are some big differences. The Celtics big 3 were all older and on the downsides of their careers- they were a lot wiser and more mature and more willing to work as a team and put ego's aside. If those 3 jokers sign in Miami, I don't think they'll have those qualities, I think they will clash ones the fun and high jinx cool down, and I think they will argue when their stats and touches start to drop. In addition, i don't think Lebron and Wade complement each other well at all, but we'll see. Boston's big 3 complemented each other perfectly- Allen for shooting, Garnett for defense, shooting and post play, and Pierce can just score. Also although everyone laughed at it at the time, Boston's other players were and have been really good- they were a lot deeper than people thought AND they lucked out with the draft, getting Rondo at PG, and Kendrick Perkins at C. Those two weren't just minimum contract filler like Miami will end up with. On top of that they had James Posey, PJ Brown, sam Cassell, Eddie House, Leone Powe and Glen Davis- I mean if you look back that was a pretty deep team.

I agree with what this thread is getting at, even if those 3 sign in Miami I think they are beatable, I don't think they are as good as the Celtics in 2007/8 and I think they will have big problems once the novelty value of playing together has worn off. We just need to focus on building a good team, and I'm quite optimistic we can do that (getting Anthony Randolph and Turiaf would be a start- our front line would be set).

That may very well be.
But I'll tell you one thing I know for sure. I will HATE that Miami team WAY, WAY more than I ever hated the Celtics or Lakers teams that were recently built. (which is a pity, cuz I kind of liked and respected Wade).
I will route against them with a passion.

That an a token will get me on the subway. Shit, not even that anymore.

Ha- well thats a given! i will hate them with every core of my being, and every season my main hope will not be to win a championship so much as wanting to beat the heat in a play off series! Just like old times!

I like Walsh's plan B. Randolph, Turiaf, Amare, Jordan, Gallo, and possibly Barron is a lot of size for teams to contend with. I am not sure how these guys fit with how D'Antoni likes to play but I think they create a lot of matchup problems. Randolph!!!!
I'm tired,I'm tired, I'm so tired right now......Kristaps Porzingis 1/3/18
