Yes it could. RT @SBS0311: @alanhahn WOW, that could be HUGE news for LeBron choosing Miami at the last minute, no?

Talked to an NBA team executive who confirmed something I heard: that the NBA salary cap will be higher than $56.1M projection.

higher cap number could be a game changer for the heat. i can't see lebron wanting to ride wade's coattails... but... who really knows? riley and his rings are pretty convincing. riley presided over the biggest dynasty of the 80s - lakers got 5 rings in what, 8 trips to the finals?

#Knicks spending more time worrying about Miami tonight than Cleveland. They know Pat Riley is a Mariano-like closer. #LeBron

I know there is a lot involve in the details but why can't the league come to a number already. I would think they would have all revenue totals in my now from last season and projections could be budgeted already. How can teams effectively make moves not knowing the final number.

Might also mean that Anthony waits to resign with Denver and it gives us a better chance to have him, LeBron, and Amare...NO??

i think what anthony does in denver is very much predicated on where lebron goes.

if lebron comes to NY, i think melo will NOT sign an extension.

if lebron goes elsewhere, i think melo may sign his extension... depending on how much he wants to be a knick.

the deal is they announce the cap number after the signing moratorium aka tomorrow. i'm guessing teams probably have the number by now, in order to write the contracts they've agreed to.

i bet the cap number becomes public knowledge some time tonight or tomorrow morning.

if it's high enough for the heat to sign three max deals and not have to deal beasley... time to start sweating.

I think the reverse could also be true. 'Melo could make the big city his own. Bet he'd like that.

this is positive. maybe opens the door for a Lee to GS sign and trade for A.Randolph to be consummated prior to our FA signings.

i agree. bet he wishes he'd done the same deal as Bron/Wade/Bosh right now. he could be a knick already.

the question is whether he risks not signing this season and losing a ton of money when the league restructures the CBA and there's a lockout next summer.

If hats true, Im not worried at all. That means LeBron/Wade/Boshs people will have already known the figure and STILL did their own thing. That would be excellent, and TBH, sounds like the most plausable scenario right now.

I would think it would be just the opposite. Unless I'm reading Melo wrong but I thought it was Denver or NY with him. I give these guys credit they are shrewd with their decision making compared to prior free agents.

They have to clear 5 mil. They still have to trade Beasley- the only question is whether its up by 2-3 mil....then they may only have to trade Chalmers

i don't think that's true. the cap is not going to be $9M higher than they thought. it might be like $2-3M higher.

Didn't Coon do an article during the NBA finals that basketball revenue was low because of numerous short playoff series... I can't imagine that the NBA finals going 7 games made a huge change in the number...
You know I gonna spin wit it

It would be terrific if the cap number came in at the 56M + jeffries' next year salary.

yes, but we're sending them DLee, supposedly. he'll be making $11M or so... GSW is over the cap. they have to send back something within 125% of DLee's contract.

this trade has to be equal in salary.

if we do it, it means we are not getting lebron.

It does make a sign and trade to Minnesota possible I think. I.e. Lee straight up for Rubio

Hahn: Salary cap will be higher than project $56.1M (UPDATED: $58M)
