The Knicks got back in the discussion with James’ camp, promoting the idea they could really attain Anthony in 2011 if he does not sign a three-year, $60 million contract extension.

Though the Knicks had said during Thursday’s presentation they could add two max free agent this year and Anthony next year, James’ agent, Leon Rose, was skeptical. Rose called the Knicks and Walsh dispatched senior VP Glen Grunwald and MSG president Scott O’Neil back to Cleveland to break it down and they met at the downtown Ritz Carlton on Saturday morning, without Carter and James.

They showed how they can get $15 million under with the expiration of Eddy Curry’s deal, trading Wilson Chandler ($3 million) and allowing Bill Walker’s contract to expire. The Nuggets said yesterday they won’t trade Anthony this season.

If you had Stoudemire and LeBron, would you rather add Anthony or a defensive center + a good pick n roll PG ?

We can't have both, so I'd rather have complimentary pieces than an other superstar player who needs the ball to be effective. That option would be cool if you played the Knicks in videogames, but in reality, I think you need good roles players who will also have a cost under your cap.

I would rather sourround Stoudemire with role players now and go after Melo and Parker next year.

Yeah, I agree.

Then again, I think Melo actually wants to be in NY more than most of these guys.

I wish he had signed the same deal as Bron/Bosh/Wade. I think Melo and Amare would be knicks right now.

I dont trust the Nets or Jay-Z one bit. Jay-Z probably calling this dude Lebron everyday. Carmelo is from Brooklyn too.

I remember we were supposed to be a lock for Chris Bosh this summer and we see what happened. I dont see Carmelo giving up that 6th yr.

I could definitely see Melo playing on the Nets. Newark wouldn't bother him for a year. Isn't he originally from Philly?
