I'm assuming this is all a part of the broader "plan B's," but this was the first time I saw these players names mentioned-

The Blazers, Knicks, Bulls and Clippers have expressed interest in Spurs free-agent guard Roger Mason, while the Jazz, Nuggets, Bobcats, Knicks and Heat are pursuing Suns free-agent forward Louis Amundson, sources say.

i hope everyone realizes that FA just attach a bunch of teams to their "interest" list and have agents release as news, right?

Amundson is a live body. If he comes cheap I have no problem with him off the bench. I don't see any reason for Mason on this team.

It's Funny but i'm somewhat happy that it looks like we might go after Miller instead of Johnson. He's cheaper and allows us to keep out options open going forward. On our team I believe Miller will put up really good numbers and fit the system in a similar way to what Johnson would have. He shoot great, handles and passes much like Johnson, but without the diva aspect and ball hogging. That would leave us very much in play for Melo next year.

Role player signings don't mean jack until you have the stars here first.

So long as we're not overpaying any of these guys.

Say all we do is hit a double with these big FAs and we get Amar'e ---- I don't care who else we get out of these lower-tier guys as long as it's on 1 year deals. Overpay if you have to -- I don't care give Miller and Felton $10M apiece, as long as they're 1-year deals. That's it..I'm not blowing the chance to make a run at Melo/Parker next year..Mike Miller, Ray Felton, Lou Amundson--all decent players, but locking up any of those guys long-term would be a colossal mistake...That's Isiah/Scott Layden stuff...I think Donnie knows better (he's shown he knows better with some of the stuff he's done i.e. Chris Duhon, etc.)...Cap management baby. If not 2010, then 2011..Melo/Parker or possibly CP3 is as good a fallback plan for us as there is out there...A very real plan, esp. if we got Amar'e and he recruited these guys (which looks like the wheels already may be in motion here)...We may not have enough to trade for these guys right now (esp. both) but next year's a different ball game when they become RFAs...

There's talk in the paper that Mike Miller is looking for a better deal than the full MLE which is 5-years almost $30M....If the Knicks consider that, they're nuts...I actually like Mike Miller a lot but we just can't afford to give this guy a long-term deal...I'd be interested in overpay even by a wide margin to bring him here but ONLY ON A 1-YR DEAL (if everything else broke down and we needed to get some decent veteran-type talent in here for next season, esp. to appease Amar'e, I'd offer this guy a 1-yr deal in the neighborhood of $10-15M. Sounds crazy and it is a little, but no way I'm compromising future cap room...That's it. Not interested in compromising our future cap space on a 4th-tier guy like Mike Miller. Sorry....1-yr deals, Miller, Felton and whoever else - Take it or leave it...Of course, if we score big in the next couple of days meaning Amar'e + at least another big man (poss. a max-level player), we're not even discussing Mike Miller. If he insists on a full MLE deal, no can do buddy. Just go to the Lakers. We're not in the position to offer him something like that..It's a shame too because he's actually a fine player (big 6'8" vet, great shooter, smart, good handle) but I'm not interested for the contract he's looking for..AD Vassallo (6'6" SG/SF that played for VA Tech, then in France last year) is a Euro. FA I believe & Cornell's Ryan Wittman went undrafted --- those are two guys right there with similar skills to Mike Miller that are younger and could be gotten right now on the ultra cheap. If they're looking for that type of player/that type of perimeter threat, go get either one of these guys right now..At least invite these guys to summer league for immediate evaluation..Plus we just drafted Andy Rautins who's game is very similar as well. If it comes down to appeasing Amar'e for year 1, we need to explain to him how a long-term deal for this guy is no good..

Amundson is a white Fishlips... but if we could get him for a minimum deal he's a nice player to have off the bench.

Assuming we only get AMARE: Can we give Miller 1yr/15 mil? Would he take it?

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

He might. He supposedly wants NY and D'Antoni (he probably wants a starting gig as well and we could give him that [if all we succeed in doing is bringing in Amar'e] -- he can't get that with the Lakers)..You're overpaying through the nose for his services with something like this but it would only be for 1 year thus keeping your cap room open for 2011. It stays in line with a lot of things Donnie's done up to this point -- trying to keep the immediate team as competitive as possible while not hurting future cap room..Of course, this is all provided we can't connect on anything else besides Amar'e in the next week or so here...

I'd be shocked if we gave this guy a 5-year deal out of the blue..Future cap flexibility goes up in smoke with a move like that and it would signal defeat.

If we can't get anything else done except Amar'e, it'll be tough but you still keep the big picture in perspective, preserve the cap space and start focusing on these big 2011 FAs --- Melo, Parker, CP3 (dialogue between Amar'e AND Melo & Parker has already taken place supposedly)..In the meantime, if we can get any of these guys sooner via trade, all the better.
