Last week, Chris Paul trade talk hit a frenzy before the Hornets went public and stated they had no intention of trading their star point guard.

This week, a league source told me that the Blazers actually made some progress toward landing Paul.

According to the source, the Blazers got close to a deal with the Hornets last week that would’ve sent Andre Miller, Joel Przybilla, Nicolas Batum, Jerryd Bayless and the 22nd pick to New Orelans for Paul and Emeka Okafor before Hornets GM Jeff Bower pulled out of the deal claiming that their owner wasn’t ready to trade Paul.

The Hornets no longer need to trade Paul for financial reasons. The trade they made on draft night with the Oklahoma City Thunder got them out of the luxury tax, so that’s no longer the issue.

The issue is whether Paul is now unhappy enough to force a trade. The Blazers believe he is and will continue to pursue a Paul deal. They won't be alone.

The Magic also have been pursuing Paul and Okafor, offering expiring contracts and Jameer Nelson. And there are two other teams that could offer the Hornets even more.

Both the Knicks and Nets are planning to step up pressure on the Hornets if they don't land LeBron. Both teams have tons of cap space and can offer massive cap relief to the Hornets (to the tune of $100 million) if they take Paul and Okafor off their hands. The Knicks could also offer Danilo Gallinari. The Nets could offer Derrick Favors and Devin Harris.

That's all it was going to take??? Batum/Bayless are ok young players, but that's really not alot...

Just heard it on the WFAN. That package they were offering is quite a deal. It would take the Knicks offering Gallinari, Chandler, Douglas and their first born to get in the door. Sounds like they want nothing to do with Curry or his contract either since they want immediate cap relief or real players right now. Nets package of Harris, Favors and Williams is more than enough that should peak the Hornets interest.

Yeah, read this. More BS. The media lately has been worse than usual with just making up stuff. What's really being said is, at best, "they had a discussion and were told no" or "I have nothing to write about, so this sounds good."
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

why would they even consider trading CP3 to the Blazers for that package when Curry, Chandler & our two 2nd rounders is so much more attractive?
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

You both have. Unfortunately, it's the buttered kind.

And to think that was Kevin Pritchard who was working on that deal for CP3 (good chance he may have at least initiated talks on that deal), all for an inappreciative team/owner that did nothing but disrespect him publicly at every turn, first by firing his very capable assistant and then by giving him the ax himself on draft night, not before they made him run their draft first (where he did an awesome job under the circumstances -- he drafted a 2 guard with good ability at 22 AND executed a great trade with Minny -- Luke Babbitt will be a much better pro than the very underwhelming Martell Webster). Not bad for a dead man walking.. Still think we shouldn't get this guy in here??
