they just broke it down on NBA Fastbreak... they're trying to say that Lebron, Bosh & Wade can all sign for the $16.6M max if they trade Beasley's contract in the process... they didn't factor in cap holds at all for the other 8 roster spots, saying they can simply sign minimum salary players for the rest of the roster & exceed the cap.

is this a feasible scenario or is ESPN wrong?

funny thing is guys like Chris Broussard just sit there in awe of the possibilities when they should know the reality of the situation.

cap is $56.1. Cap holds are $0.475 per. I think you have to have 12. and Miami's #'s are here: http://hoopshype.com/salaries/miami.htm

those numbers are wrong though - they waived james jones but he still has a cap hold.

so assuming they trade beasley:

max 1 = $16.8M
max 2 = $16.8M
max 3 = $16.8M
james jones cap hold from buyout = $1.9M
chalmers = $847,000
phantom holds 4-12 = $3.76M

total = $56.9M

so it'd be extremely close but they'd be about $800,000 short. they could trade chalmers for a second round pick, but then you would have to add another cap hold at $470,000, so they'd still be about $500,000 short of being able to offer three max deals. i guess you could get wade, bron and lbj to split the difference?

and that's assuming they trade beasley, who they haven't been able to give away. with beasley on board they are $5M short.

so you would have LBJ, Wade, Bosh and a roster of undrafted NBDL guys and 2nd round picks. That team wont win. Bosh will be gimpy by trade deadline and Mia will be shopping him around for a package of players who can actually contribute something

Once you get beyond South Beach, a few golf courses, Don Shula and Little Havana please explain exactly what it is that makes Miami such an irresitible destination?

There is no way that all three of those guys on the same team doesn't win the next 8 NBA championships. I want Lebron as much as the next guy and I would hate nothing more than to see him team up with Wade and Bosh in Miami with Pat Riley coaching but let's be realistic here...you could run 2 60 years out there and park their wheel chairs in the corners and they'd still win 60 games and the championship every year.

More importantly, it's a stupid way to build a contender. That's why Riley won't do it. It's why Lebron won't do it. You need more than 3 actual NBA guys to win a chip. That team might get into the playoffs, but it would not be too hard to defend. Remember, only one guy can have the ball at a time. An injury to any of the big three and they can all forget about the post-season. Also, Wade and Lebron are too big to share a court on the same team.

Lebron is coming to NYC. Book it, Danno.

Utter hogwash. It's only your 10th post, so I won't belittle such tripe, but I hope your future posts show a bit more savvy. Sheesh.
