from RealGM:
A source told Alan Hahn of Newsday that LeBron James informed the Knicks that he has not made up his mind where to sign and is ready to receive their presentation on Thursday.

Hahn describes "backchannel assurances sent to Knicks that LeBron hasn't made any decisions. Very open to listening to their pitch."

Is there a point to LBJ telling the Knicks to keep their chins up and we are still very much in play? Does it mean he is concerned we might blow our cap away making rash moves to avoid becoming the scrubs of the FA signing period? Does it mean he has a plan and doesn't want the Knicks to f*(k it up by signing someone he doesn't want?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Other thing I read is Knicks concerned about Lebrons entourage running things by having to give them jobs and too much influence.

Anyteam should be concerned for that matter. This "king james" crap could get out of hand. I was happy when Mets passed on A-Rod when he tried to pull some crap.

Ewing ran the franchise into the ground. Marbury held it hostage. We gotta give coaches a fair chance.

I don't know how common that is for stars but the Marbury family all seemed to work for the Nets, get seats and be disruptive. Apparently at least some family members got jobs for the Knicks. LeBron is the best player on the planet. He is very loyal and may just stay in Cleveland because of this. I think Donnie would do anything to get LeBron. He did that for D'Antoni, more money and no requests or expectations to work on weaknesses.

We should tell him that we have decided to stop pursuing him and are now going to focus on some of the other FAs out there and see how he reacts.

I'll kiss his ass if, and when,he comes here- especially if he drags Bosh with him, but I am sick of the Knicks kissing this guy's feet while his handlers seem to be leaking daily comments about all the non-NY teams James is going to.

He should tell his band of psychophants to keep their mouths shut.

Man, I couldn't agree with that more Pal...Moonangie does raise an interesting point above though. I can definitely see how you can interpret LeBron's willingness to still meet with the Knicks like that..We'll see what happens..

I still believe the whole thing comes down to a big roster upgrade we might still have up our sleeve, probably for a PG (Okafor/Collison, Tony Parker). And I don't want to hear Luke Ridnour (nice little steady performer I guess but this guy's not attracting anyone plus he'd chew up valuable cap room)....Collison or Parker might be two moves we're prepared to make only if LeBron & his 2nd banana agree to come here..Donnie might have to hear that from these guys before he surrenders Chandler & TD to anyone (you know thats what it'll take along with EC's expiring contract)..It does make a lot of sense for us to be very much involved with those two teams (NO & SA) for those players---I can definitely see a willingness by both of those teams to make those deals too btw -- NO if we agree to take Okafor's monster contract and it looks like SA may be prepared to go with George Hill at the point [Parker never recovered his starting job once he came back from injury last year ] plus I think they really like D-Leaguer Curtis Jerrells as a PG for the future on the cheap. Shedding Parker wouldn't be the long-term savings NO would get by dumping Okafor on us but he still makes $13.5M this year. That's a lot of money for a guy they intend on being the backup PG..Parker as a backup PG to George Hill just isn't gonna work out there--he'll be unhappy & demanding a trade not before long. The Spurs may not want that type of distraction. Parker's already coming out & telling people that he wants to be a Knick btw. SA may also really like Chandler & TD...Point is I can very much see us and both of those teams agreeing to either of these deals...Makes too much sense for everyone...I'm just surprised we haven't heard anything --- maybe Donnie's got a gag order on both of those teams (or the one team/trade he's zeroed in on) -- kind of like 'if you open your mouth, the deals off' type of thing..Not sure why Donnie would insist on a gag order but he may have his reasons (maybe he wants his competitors in this to think that they've done enough --- maybe he doesn't want Chicago or Miami scrambling/going overboard to clear even more room or make a trade themselves if they thought we had Parker or Okafor/Collison coming -- who knows)..

This whole thing is killing me though --- are we out of it?/do we still have a shot here? Everytime I think we're out of it, Tommy Dee, Moonangie, Larry Coon or someone else points out a few thing where I begin to feel we still have a chance...Jesus, my nerves are shot man..

rofl....... sadly he probably expects that to now be written into the contract proposal.

Philly has Rocky, Chitown has Jordan, we have LeDoucheBag of Liberty.

It's such an odd situation with this guy. I really DO NOT LIKE LeBron one bit. If he sucked at basketball I'd want him dead.

The guy is a flat out jerkoff. One way jerkoff at that. Drama queen. Arrogant piece of ****.

I could go on...but it's too early for that.

Yet, if we do get him, then he's out piece of ****ing arrogant douchebag sniffing scumbag. I guess.

He needs to cut that midwest bull**** wanna be crap out if he comes to NY though. We don't play those stupid little games of his here.

The way I see it the Knicks are still the most attractive destination if he wants to play with Bosh- its either here or NJ.

seriously - we do realize how much ernie grunfeld F-ed the knicks when he took Yi, right?

now the Nets can sign two max FAs AND keep Devin Harris and Brook Lopez. AND they'll be in Brooklyn. AND they're co-owned by Jay-Z.

I have to think the Nets are actually in the lead right now.

on paper they are certainly a wild card.

However Brooklyn isnt Manhatten. The island has global appeal, Brooklyn is a neighborhood. Nobody knows what that area is like (have they broke ground?) and thats a team that has no fan base.

a report came out yesterday that they poured the cement for the foundation - i got an email from the nets organization somehow (i've never purchased nets tickets... ever (though i have bought yankees tickets and both are on YES)). auspicious timing for sure.

i think the nets have a real chance... through in the fact that they share a TV network with lebron's favorite team, they are owned by a global billionaire as well as close ties to Jay-Z and Beyonce and they're in the NY metro area...

i don't know... now that they actually have two max space along with devin harris and brook lopez and an accomplished defensive coach who made it to the finals... the nets seem to be sitting pretty.

The Nets definitely are more of a wild card now- the problem is no fan base. Brooklyn MAY solve that, but its too early to tell.

i think there is a very real chance of this.

If Bosh says he'll go to Miami but only for the max... Miami has to say yes. Then they have Wade and Bosh and about $10M in cap room. You have to think they'll try to fill out the roster with decent players and build a real team.

Then LeBron will have to look at Cleveland and realize they won't be good enough to get by the Heat and I think he'll look to the Knicks and Bulls. I think the Bulls have the advantage right now, BUT if the Knicks can get Joe Johnson to commit... maybe that changes?

The Knicks do have the wildcard that Eddy Curry will be easy to move for another piece. If they have Joe Johnson (or Amar'e) on board, Gallo, Chandler, Toney, Walker and the ability to move Curry for a piece... maybe?

Also, it could down to LeBron just wanting to be a Knick. Or a Bull. That's where I see the Knicks and Bulls having the advantage - they both have legacies. The Heat and Nets don't really. I think he'll be a Knick or a Bull by July 8th.

Any docs here who can prescribe a Valium or Xanax for Cosmic? I fear he's gonna bust an artery with all that dramatic hypertension.

Cosmic, I bet after Lebron (and whomever) delivers us our first chip you will be willing to eat some of those words. I don't like all the game playing either (from a fan's perspective), but put yourself in Lebron's shoes. He must be enjoying the crap outta this. Wouldn't you? I know I would. And laugh all the way to my fist full of rings.

Word. In the immortal lexicon of Dave Chappelle: "Ernie is a biiiiiaaaaatttttccchhhhhh!".

I also agree that the Nets may have the upper hand now in that they can offer much of what the NYK can offer PLUS they have two solid role players in Harris and Lopez. Though I continue to believe that Gallo will be a star in this league, and I think TD, Chandler and Walker are terrific role players to fill in around Lebron.

The real wild card for the Nets is Johnson. Lebron has said repeatedy that he wants a defensive oriented coach who WAS A PLAYER. Does any coach match that more than AJ? And he took a team to the Finals already. Did MDA?

It's going to be a tough sell, but hopefully the allure of the City NOW, plus Eddy's expiring will put us over the top.

Lebron's reassurance...
