I brought this up in another thread and would just like to see responses

I like Gallo, a lot. So im kinda torn on this. But if we had a chance to attach him to Curry's deal simply for future, non premium picks, and clear another 14.6 million in cap space (obviously the trade would have to occur with a team who is under the cap, im confident we could find one who likes Gallo enough to do it), we would basically be able to offer 3 maxes. This could obviously be a potential free agency game-changer. It would be a very aggressive and potentially risky move, but all the moves up to this have been, so why not go all in. This would obviously make the situation more appealing to LeBron, because i doubt he personally values Gallo as much as Knick fans do, the option of a 3rd big contract would be more appealing to him i would assume. And even if we did not get LeBron, it would also allow for more options in FA.

Thoughts?

You only make that trade if you have verbal commitments from the guys. Otherwise it's too risky.

And I don't see any team in the league who would take on Curry's deal for Gallo.

I think Gallo is thought of highly enough to where a team would take on Curry's 11 to get him for peanuts. Im not talking about us getting high picks in return. Plus Curry only has a year left and the expiring could also allow that team to move him this year.

I wouldn't do it. It would leave our roster to bare. If we wait, I'm sure we can find a deal that will allow us to unload Curry for decent players without giving up our Gallo.

To me, among all the things the Knicks could possibly do to really alter the FA landscape, this could be the biggest game changer, and is also much more realistic than getting a good player for Curry. Im certain we could find a team willing to take on Curry$ to get Gallo to create this cap space for us among the 8-9 teams who have the room to do it. Its also the riskiest. But if you are the Knicks, whats the more appealing sales pitch to LeBron next week?....

1. Come to NY and have the possibility to play with 2 other max guys

2. Come to NY and play with one other max guy, plus we have Gallo who MIGHT be real good one day, and maybe we can get something decent for Curry's contract

I think #1 is more appealing to him, but its also not a lock he would come here and we could lose a good young player

only if you have something on the table. You cant do it just to do it.

I mean say you sign Lebron. Then Lee to $11mm (6 years $85mm). You would have about $8-$10mmm in cap space. If I could get a legit verbal from Amare or Bosh then you have to do that.

Your team would be:
PG Douglas
SG Lebron
SF Chandler
PF Lee
C Amare
bench: Walker, Rautins, Fields, JEROME

something like that right? How do you not do that? Of course you do.

not just for cap space though

I think they maybe looking into something like this with Chandler/Curry. I beleive that Chandler will have a better career than Gallo so I would consider it and I think if the organization is willing to do it with Chandler they should consider Gallo as well.

I am not sure a team would take on Curry just to get Chandler for this type of package. In addition to Gallo being the better prospect (you might disagree, and you might be right eventually, but your opinion is in the minority on this I would say) Gallo is also locked up for an extra year than Chandler is and buys a team some more time before the players 2nd contract. Chandler is going to be a RFA next offseason

We could probably get something done with Chandler+Curry but it would involve taking back a good deal of salary

I trade Gallo and Curry either sign and trade for one of the big free agents or for CP3 in a heartbeat and then sign 2 more max contracts.
No layups!

Already posted in the other thread that I'd trade Gallo/Curry in a CP3/Okafor trade. But in a straight salary dump? Hrmmm, I'd probably still do it.

A trade like this would actually open up an extra $14M or so in cap space, because we're also losing Gallo's $3.3M obligation (it's more like $13.5M because of roster cap holds). Still, by doing that, we'd have a total of $48M in cap space. We can sign two maxes at $16.5M each, sign a few role players like Mike Miller or Felton with $5-6M or so, and then resign David Lee with his bird rights (cap hold of $10.5M), which allows us to pay him any amount, regardless of what our cap is.

We already don't have enough assets to do sign and trades... this would leave us even more bare.

We are going to have difficulties signing two maxes as it is... and it's not because of salary cap space, it's because we need to have matching assets for sign and trades. I think only Joe Johnson might come without a sign and trade... but Bosh, Lebron, Wade (ok... he ain't coming) will be very hard to pry without sign and trades

Rose is not the answer.

I think you need two max free agents to commit to NY before you consider moving Gallo or Chandler. After you get that commitment from two max free agents, then you can use the remaining assets you have to build the best possible team. The ideal team has three all star players absorbing most of the salary and then the remainder of the roster is filled in using the veteran exception.

i thought that was the condition to justify making the T-Mac trade? so since we obviously already have a verbal commitment from Lebron & Bosh, we mine as well go all the way... if we clear Wilson & TD that gives us even more flexibility!

I hate to trade Gallo...It just seems in a couple years he could be a star.

I still think Lebron comes to NY without all this.

Do you guys agree with this----?
Lebron wants to come to NY..but,if he comes as we are now, he will get killed in the PR department...it will look like it is all for $ and endorsements....
BUT,if we sign someone like JJ right away (and I am guessing this is why he is rumored to be our top choice now) our roster looks better...if we could ever make a trade then we look even better...suddenly Lebron's decision could be sold as a basketball choice...the one he wants, but can only make if we improve.

Heck, this is kind of fun...a bit annoying, but what the hell...

Risky, but would you guys consider this?
