I think this is a bad idea getting Joe Johnson. He is a player that you can't build around and to give him a max anything is ludicrous. There are defenitely better idea out there that will work for the Knicks. One would be to use that cap space and go after Chris Paul in a trade. Knicks send Curry, and Douglass plus the cap space to the Hornets for Okafor and Paul. This meets a team need with a pg with great passing skills. What this does also is it lets LeBron know that they have an all star pg better than Rose. I'm not much of an Okafor fan but if it gets the Knicks LeBron it works for me.

A lineup of:
Paul pg
Chandler sg
Okafor/ Barron/ Jordan c
Gallo pf
LeBron sf

Would go a long way for the Knicks. I don't much like having Gallo at pf but the knicks can add a player like a Gooden to the mix. I am totally against this Joe Johnson signing because he is on the down side of his career and to give him a contract of max proportions is bad move that will rot the team in cap hell again. If you guy recall his playoff run you saw a player having difficulty creating his own shot with tight defense he was render mostly useless. He was jacking up contested shot after shot because of his inability to create a solid shot for himself. Say no to Joe.

Theres no way were getting Paul, for Curry and Douglas. We can say no to Joe, fine, but give me a realistic alternative if Lerbon/Wade and Bosh all say no...

Agreed. Best case scenario if LeBron signs elsewhere is an offer to the Hornets for Paul. Curry and Chandler may not seem like much (and obviously no draft pick sweeteners since Walsh traded every pick until the 2020s to get Tracy McGrady), but the Hornets would save $15 million this yr, $28 million in 2011-12 season, $31 million in the 12-13 season, and $14 million in the 2013-14 season, for a savings of almost $90 million. For a team struggling to pay the bills, that is a lot of savings.

This might sound crazy but I would trade Galo as much as I love him because we could get back a star for him he is the only one that has value and if we use Curry's expiring deal to go along with him we could still sign two stars along with the one we bring in via trade.

agreed. the hornets aren't trading chris paul.

though i also agree that going after joe johnson is the kind of move that will feel good for a season or two and that we'll be lamenting his bloated contract by year 3 or 4.

i'd go after Tyson Chandler, David Lee, Ray Felton and Rudy Gay.

Felton / Toney
Rudy / Walker
Gallo / Wilson Chandler
DLee / Wilson / Gallo
Tyson / Barron / Jerome Jordan

it's not great, but if we don't sign these guys to bloated contracts, they'll all be valuable, tradable pieces and we can be competitive while also having a team full of assets.

sign joe johnson.
sign amare or lee.
trade curry + chandler + douglas for tony parker

put out a starting 5 of parker, joe, gallo, amare/lee, ???

you'll score a ton of points, probably make the playoffs and that will be enough to sell out the garden and make the league enough money.

i don't think there's any way that any one takes curry's contract.

unless it's for a really long deal like emeka okafor or andreis biedrins. maybe calderon.

Paul can be had for the simple reason he wants out of NO. The deal presented to them is a solid deal that helps that organization out with cap space and staying under the luxury tax thresholds. Curry is an expiring deal and they get the trade exemption for trading Paul away. That is monumental saving for the Hornets and they get Douglas who is a solid player. Maybe a future sweeteners might be needed to be thrown in. I think the Hornets entertain this deal. Please enough with no one wants Curry we know that to be a fact but his value is that expiring contract not his production. Besides think about that atrocious contract that the Knicks are taking on with Okafor a below average player with many years left on the contract. The Knicks would be doing a huge favor for the Hornets and the Hornets would be helping the Knicks out too in the process. We have seen already BS trades made, Bucks with warriors, Bulls with Wizards. This trade is actually better than the other trades.

I don't think we have to sign JJ or Amare to make the playoffs. And Chandler and Douglas for Paker is more money down the drain. Can't lose money and assets.
