Any time a FA wants to sign with the Knicks, some UK skeptics bring up the old smoke and mirrors argument: The FA isn't really trying to sign with the Knicks, he's just using the Knicks to inflate his value.

Now, the Knicks have been a clear target for Lebron for years. But with the 2010 FA about to start, we're hearing rumors about every single team - but the Knicks. You see where I'm going?

First, it's Lebron's going to stay in Cleveland for two more years.
Then, the big rumor was Lebron to Chicago - all started by some reporter at ESPN.
Yesterday, Lebron was going to Miami to team up with Wade.
Today, even the Nets have a higher chance of getting Lebron than the Knicks.

Is this just smoke and mirrors by Lebron? The only question is motivation. His value is already at max, so is there anything he would get on the side by increasing the competition with some well placed rumors? I'm guessing that, yes, there is but I'm not sure what.

I think its smoke, there's fire.

What was the last free agent we signed? I mean, good one, not Duhon.

I don't know that the Knicks have been a target for Lebron, except maybe in the mind of the NY media.

I don't think any of the coverage bodes well for us landing Lebron-

First, the rampant speculation of Chicago as a destination for Lebron, and then the fact that the news is reporting that the Knicks will max out JJ & Amare. Seems to me that our front office knows they are screwed, and they are trying to prep their fans for plan B so when plan B happens, it can look like a major success and not a huge failure.

the last time the Knicks had money they bought the best backcourt that was available via FA in Houston and Childs.

Since then we have never had anything but the MLE to offer

Other than wearing a Yankee cap (which everyone who wants to be trendy does) or smiling at JayZ and his lady seated courtside, Lebron has done absolutely nothing to indicate any interest in New York

it is all manufactured hype to sell newspapers

to be certain, there is no city better equipped to manufacture a story than New York

Sorry Fish but it was NOT the best available. Tim Hardaway was a FA that year. Childs sucked, we should have signed Tim

fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

fair enough, but Reggie resigned and Hardaway was a southern boy who would NEVER play in NYC if you gave him ARod's contract.

Childs was the classic problem good player on a bad team. He also loved MSG and killed the Knicks hitting big shots. He turned out to be fat and lazy but certainly had his moments.

None of that past stuff matters here now. This is a real situation and there is serious interest from Lebron. The Knicks are at the top of the list of his options cuz we have the ability to put a great team around him. We have a top coach, respected GM, committed owner with deep pockets, great city with prestige and off the court opportunities above any other city, historic stadium, best fans proven again this season, a great cap situation going forward to allow even more improvement and no shadow of MJ or presence of Wade to take away shine.

IMO Lebron will see all of these things after the Knicks lay it out and once he talks with DW, MDA, H2O and Jimmy he'll see that as a management team we are more easy to deal with and trust to be loyal and committed to his success and that our FO is the only settled intact and in synch FO of all the teams. No GM, Owner or Coach questions or issues.

Sam Cassell was also available.

The longer he holds out the more tickets are sold. The LeBron to Bulls to Miami to next destination where tickets need to be sold. The NBA is working this LeBron to everywhere angle to sell tickets and when it is all said and done he will choose a destination and the other fans are going to be stuck with tickets they purchased with the idea they were going to see LeBron. Miami is a terrible destination if Wade couldn't sell that building out I don't know what will. They were having trouble selling the Heats out when they were making their run with Shaq and Wade.

I should have worded it better. I meant longer the hoopla with the speculations of where he is going goes on the more tickets are going to be sold. Bulls its a done deal ticket sales shoot through the roof in Chi town. Miami Bosh done deal, ticket sales go up. Nets are in the lead and ticket sales go up there. This LeBron FA has help the NBA sell ticket in multiple location with just the thought of him being a player for their respected team. This FA has worked to perfection for the NBA, ticket sales are definitely up.

while this is true, I wouldn't really hold the players themselves accountable. It's the media frenzy and the sucker season ticket holders.

I agree with you Martin, the players are just doing their due dilligance, but you have admit there might be a lot of wagging the dog going on. I wouldn't be surprised if Sterns has a lot of say in the rumors to stimulate ticket sales.
