The Mavericks were hoping they'd be able to sign Dirk Nowitzki to a contract extension, but he'll hit the free agent market instead.

A source confirmed to the Dallas Morning News that a extension between the two sides is now unlikely.

Nowitzki said last month that he would exercise his early termination option and explore free agency for the first time.

He was scheduled to make $21.5 million next season.

My opinion. Even thought Dirk is 32--I think with the way he plays hes good for 5 more. he instantly becomes the 2 best FA and imho--I would GO hard after him-and I think we have a chance there

Who would you rank as the best FA to go with Dirk?

I think it is
1) James
2) Wade
3) Johnson

You know I gonna spin wit it

Said it before, I'll say it again. At this point I'd go to war with Dirk and Wade and tell Leprimadonna to kick rocks.

You could take Dirk-LEbron and use Gallo as a trading chip.

Gallo has most value. You move him with Curry you can get value in return. THere is your power trio.

I am so F pissed that the Knicks did not do what they could to get Whiteside. We could go Lee Dirk Gallo upfront with two interchangeable shotblockers to play with the bench.

Lee at C with Dirk at 4 and Gallo at 3 is tough to match--and then you could mix the shotblockers and wings. Our DD should have had every angle locked down. I wouldve used the 1mm in cap space at 25 or spent the 3mm on pick 31 --whatever I had to do to get Whiteside--I feel it was disastrous blunderous but I have to be thankful that we atleast have a solid back up C prospect--who if he gains solid base strength could be a decent 2ndtier starter one day

I still can't see Dirk Nowitzki leaving Dallas. No way Mark Cuban losses him like he lost Steve Nash. Cuban would give a 32 year old Dirk a 6 year contract if needed.

I would be happy if we keep Lee and add Dirk, and then use whatever is left over on some 2nd tier players.

The one thing Dirk has is a will to win and he's been there.

And then I hope like heck that Amare leaves and we can trade Chandler & Curry to Phoenix for Nash:

Nash
Douglas
Gallo
Lee
Dirk

This would actually be a great plan B. I think the team chemistry & fit with MDA would be off the charts and would give both Chicago & Miami a run for their money even were they able to add Lebron/Bosh & Wade/Amare.

Dirk could play with anybody. Not even a question.

Dirk will be re-signed by Dallas. I'm 99% certain of that as is the rest of the world.

Dirk wanted a brand new max contract. He gets the most money and most years by opting out.

briggs, i know you're disappointed about whiteside, but he's still an unknown quantity. i wish we would have taken him also, but who knows if he'll be any good or not.

I get the feeling, we, and every other team in the FA mix, are being used by the agents to get the max for their clients. So much BS and positioning.

This has been my wish from Day 1 of this circus called Free Agency. Nash would be wonderful here. Then we easily get LeBron or Bosh or both....or Lee. We'd be a top contender in the East.
