6:09: So Chicago traded No. 17 to Washington with Kirk Hinrich in return for the cap space to pursue LeBron and Bosh. This was funny because just four months ago the Knicks traded Jordan Hill (last year's No. 8 pick) and their 2012 No. 1, and agreed to swap No. 1s with Houston in 2011 so the Rockets would take Jared Jeffries off their hands (who makes less money than Hinrich, by the way) so they could also pursue LeBron and Bosh. Might be time to take Donnie Walsh to the GM vet and put him down.

The above is from Bill Simmons, but it's interesting to note. Had Walsh hung onto Hill and actually played him I am willing to bet they would have taken Curry, Hill and a number one off our hands instead.

We all thought we got fleeced at the time and that's a medicore package the Wizards got back especially with there roster. Livingston, Foye, Arenas. Hinrich isn't really an upgrade over any of those guys.

It's a shame because Jefferies would have fit in better with two max free agents and had they taken Curry it's around 3 more million the knicks could have spent which would have made them a much more complete team.

walsh saw an opportunity to make a deal to cut cap and he did it quick. not unlike his moving of zach and crawford 1 month into the 09 season.

things are clear now. walsh's number 1 and only objective was to get cap space. didn't matter how, just get it. forget draft picks, player development, etc. hire a coach that will appeal to those FA's and get the space to sign them.

Walsh has misplayed pretty much every deal he has done. We have not maximized the value of any asset we traded.

Pretty much. The question is, what happens if we don't get any major free agents?

Walsh should have never made the Hill trade. We could have gotten rid of Jeffries with just Hill or just the draft picks if Walsh waited.

the hill trade was a bend over job by morey...but walsh felt he couldn't take a chance and wait on it. despite the lopsidedness of it, i think walsh had to do it with a trade deadline looming since 2010 FA was the only directive he was operating under.

Hindsight is 20/20. He did what seemed appropriate at the time. Washington are lunatics for taking Hinrich for the #17 when they already have Foye, Arenas, and Wall. Makes no sense at all.

it'll probably make more sense down the road. not all deals could be consumated on draft night. they probably have more moves lined up to thin out the back court a bit. i don't expect one of foye or arenas to be a wizard on opening night.

That is just Ernie Grunfeld trying to screw the Knicks.

I should have sold short BP with the knowledge I have now.

IN fact, there are so many things I should have done in my life with 20-20 hindsight.

The Bulls still don't have cap for two max deals. They are $3.6-$4.6M short depending on whose numbers you believe.

And they only have five players on their roster to deal to get more room:

Deng - $11.35M
DRose - $5.54M
Noah - $3.12M
Gibson - $1.71M
Johnson - $1.12M

They need to trade Deng or some combo of Noah and one of their cheap guys to get two full maxes.

I think they can Bron and possibly Joe Johnson.

I don't think they can get Bron AND Bosh, unless Cleveland or Toronto is willing to take Luol Deng back in a sign and trade.

Donnie did a great job creating cap room. He did a horrible job in three straight drafts. It is what it is.
