Nets' owner Mikhail Prokhorov plans to fly to Akron to meet with James as early as July 1. Prokhorov has not yet signed a new contract with Rod Thorn, whom Wojnarowski praises for his shrewd negotiating skill.

He writes that Thorn "turned insufferable Minnesota GM David Kahn into a basket case over the Nets threatening to draft Wesley Johnson."

As for the Knicks planning a day with James in Manhattan on July 1, an executive whose team is in the hunt said that James will be home that day.

"LeBron's taking appointments with teams in Ohio that day," the official told Wojnarowski.

If Dolan was to go you'd blast him for going.

YOu really want Dolan to go? I'd think it best for him to stay home and work his axe than try to recruit.

Dolan got a nice fat checkbook and thats all Lebron needs to know about him. The rest is up to Donnie and MDA to show him what is possible and how much fun MDA is gonna make it for him.

NY sells itself.

Not only is Dolan physically unimpressive but he's not even well spoken -- remember the taped segment with Al Trautwig on MSG where Dolan came on with Isiah after Larry Brown was fired? It was where he told everyone that Isiah's got one more shot to turn this thing around. That was so painful to watch...

I don't want Dolan flying anywhere representing the Knicks -- leave that to Walsh and D'Antoni if need be.

What I heard is that the Knicks are sending a plane to Akron with a bunch of New York luminaries on it. Trump, Chris Rock, etc.

I think Donnie and Mike will do a good job with their pitch. I almost hope Dolan isn't involved, but supposedly Lebron wants to know about the ownership and play for a good owner. When I heard that, I thought our chances of getting Lebron took a hit.

A lot of our bad luck seems like bad karma from having a horrible owner. Look at Ernie Gruenfeld - you think he made the move with Chicago and part of him wasn't glad to F the Knicks after the way they fired him? I'm sure Ernie is smiling today. We still have bad karma from the way we forced Ewing, Oakley, Camby, Checketts and JVG out the door.

It's hard to be a Knicks fan. Dolan sucks.

i have to think JVG saw the writing on the door. he saw how dolan operated and knew they had no chance to rebuild with him meddling.

Im not sure how from a players perspective how dolan is a bad owner. He holds up his end of the bargain, is loyal to players worthy of being loyal to and pays very well. Knicks have nice practice facility, nice jet and get treated well.

The only players who had problems have had similar in other cities.

I have been been going on about the Russian for months and IM impressed he is not starphuching it yet.

Nets don't own it, we keep giving it away.

Lebron is coming Briggs. Its very stealth. Playa told me its inside stuff.

you're right he def did. remember he was 9-8 when he left. jvg aint no dummy. something pissed him off and he said F U dolan i'm out. dolan does nothing positive for the lebron to ny sweepstakes. yes, he has money and can write big checks, but so do all th eother owners in the league.

Dude, I am a fan of Rod thorn and admire the nets. Last year was a disaster but they are rebuilding and they are smart.

Bottom line is not WHAT HE SAID but what he does. All owners say that kind of crap.

Knicks under dolan have been awful the last 10 years but before that Dolan was still owner with Checketts in charge and they did very well. Under Layden it was awful but we were getting cap space and assets until Isiah sold a bill of goods to Dolan and they leveraged those assets into real crap. Talented crap, but still crap.

SO now we have a blend of a few decent players and some big cap space.

A GM with cred and a good coach.

Its not totally dysfunctional.

Today we are all grumpy but lets just see how this all plays out.

The difference is the Nets new owner has won championships more than once. He means what he says, Others don't

All you have to do in Europe to win anything is have money. Then you can literally buy the best players available and compete. There's no cap, there's no trading. You just purchase players from other teams for an agreed upon sum of money and then you can pay the player whatever he wants. Being a billionaire in the NBA means absolutely SHIT. Dolan would be amazing in Europe too. There is a cap here. You can't buy anyone you want.

The Nets have managed to build a team the old fashioned way and they have cap space so their owner can use his money to help the team next year. Lopez,Favors, Harris, Lee, Williams and a marquee free agent probably Lee, Gay or Boozer along with a marquee coach should equal playoff success next year.

I would love to see a team go from 12 wins to the playoffs the very next season, it's never happen
