The thing about Gay though is hes really NOT as good defensively as he should be or as many think. He's basically an average defensive player, not poor by any means, but a far cry from what some thought he would be coming out of UCONN and giving him Scottie Pippen comparisons. I do like him though and I think with his athletic ability in an up tempo style like this, he'd be very fun to watch. The 6 year age difference also makes him more attractive to me than Joe Johnson
In all honesty, I don't see many Memphis games. But I saw a few last season. I saw a great game between OKC and Memphis. Gay looked plugged in - he was involved in every play and hustling and had an awareness to his game that I think is important to playing winning basketball. He made some huge blocks and rebounds in that game.
This is the main thing I think Wilson Chandler is lacking. Wilson may have a similar skill set to Rudy, but Rudy seems involved in the game. Wilson seems to float in and out of the game with no awareness of the scoreboard. That's going off a small sample size, but I think Rudy can be a very good player for a very long time.
If I were building the Knicks this summer and Bosh, Bron, Joe Johnson, Amar'e are all off the table, I go after Gay and Tyson Chandler and try to keep Lee and get a guy like Collison.
