Seems like Memphis is getting ready to lose Rudy Gay.

Is this guy the sleeper Free agent?

Rudy Gay is the new Corey Maggette. I have been waiting for Gay to make the leap for 2 yrs now. If he plays with a very good PG he could blossom but with Douglas at PG he isnt worth the max.

Id pay him to play on our wing before i paid Joe Johnson, especially with the age difference. I certainly wouldn't wear his jersey around town though

Maybe not the best thread title.

I agree, though, that Memphis may be expecting to lose him.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

I think signing Gay would be fine but the Knicks would absolutely need a real point guard if they sign him. Keep in mind dude is restricted. Memphis should match anything he signs though. We'll see what happens....btw, Gay is not much better than Wilson. Gallo, gay, and wilson is a Decent rotation but without a true power fwd they look weak upfront. Sigh

i like Rudy Gay. he has a defensive toughness about him. i'd happily take Rudy Gay.

Rudy Gay, Tyson Chandler, David Lee and a point guard? smart, tough team that can still fill it? meh. it's hard out there for a knick.

The thing about Gay though is hes really NOT as good defensively as he should be or as many think. He's basically an average defensive player, not poor by any means, but a far cry from what some thought he would be coming out of UCONN and giving him Scottie Pippen comparisons. I do like him though and I think with his athletic ability in an up tempo style like this, he'd be very fun to watch. The 6 year age difference also makes him more attractive to me than Joe Johnson

He's not a max guy, i wouldn't make a max offer. Id be interested at a price though. Also has been very durable to date which is a big underrated plus

In all honesty, I don't see many Memphis games. But I saw a few last season. I saw a great game between OKC and Memphis. Gay looked plugged in - he was involved in every play and hustling and had an awareness to his game that I think is important to playing winning basketball. He made some huge blocks and rebounds in that game.

This is the main thing I think Wilson Chandler is lacking. Wilson may have a similar skill set to Rudy, but Rudy seems involved in the game. Wilson seems to float in and out of the game with no awareness of the scoreboard. That's going off a small sample size, but I think Rudy can be a very good player for a very long time.

If I were building the Knicks this summer and Bosh, Bron, Joe Johnson, Amar'e are all off the table, I go after Gay and Tyson Chandler and try to keep Lee and get a guy like Collison.

I'm not lebron or bust, either kid. Nor Bosh or bust. How about Dirk, Gay and Felton?

Joe Johnson vs Gay? What do you guys think if we have to make one big offer to a wing....

Very different players, Gay is 5 years younger, Johnson is currently the better player, but will certainly be descending over the life of the deal whereas Gay could be ascending. Johnson has playoff experience but that experience has largely been disappointing, especially this year where he was terrible. Both have been very durable. Joe Johnson is the much better ball handler and passer. Gay is the better defender although he's not as good defensively as some think. Gay is certainly the better athlete and is probably in the top 5 percentile of athletes in the league.

I wouldn't offer either a max but id offer Gay north of 10+ mil per before i offered Joe Johnson

i'd take dirk, i don't want to come away emptyhanded. i think dirk has about 3 really good years left in him.

i'd be for johnson if he took the same amount as gay.. 12mil starting. he's not a max player and i don't want to pay him like one.

I agree crzymdups...I've been trying to explain that feeling on this board for a while. I'd welcome Rudy gay....as far as Joe Johnson? I'd rather stick with Billy walker and see what he does.

I get the feeling Gay is Jersey bound and they had that as their real backup plan all along.
