Curry+Chandler+Douglas sign-n-trade for someone (Bosh, LeBron, Johnson)

Hypothetical: Say we trade for Joe Johnson.

All of a sudden, we could have room for Bron and Bosh to come to a team with Johnson already on it.

JJ and Gallo at the wings will provide enough cover for LeBron and Bosh.

JJ and Gallo is as good a built-in platform for Bron/Bosh to go to as any team. (save miami, but i don't believe LeBron would go to miami)

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Hey man I actually like that trade a lot! I never really thought about that kind of deal, but would Atl consider it? I would think it's better than getting nothing for him.

Thats probably not even enough. We'd have to toss in Walker and every pick from now til 2020.

If we only have Gallinari on the squad we have room for three max guys and 8 cap holds.

Can you trade somebody (Eddy) while he is in jail?
Hmm... Probably you can if another high security prison will need player on their team....

Probably have to add Walker to that deal.

Essentially you'd be starting with a roster of:

Joe Johnson: 16mil
Danilo Gallinari: 3.3 mil
Max1: 16.83
Max2: 16.83
Cap Hold x 8 = 3.5mil

That is 56.5 mil. So you'd have to convince JJ to take a little less than the max.

Scenario 2 is give David Lee the 2nd max slot which for him is only 14mil.

Then JJ gets full Max, Lee gets full Max, and LeBron can decide to join at max too.

Briggs- you may say you would laugh, but I think the Atlanta GM would be laughing because they've probably already accepted that they are losing JJ for nothing, and the chance to have Eddy in a contract year with 1-2 young pieces and perhaps some cash is probably more than they'll get anywhere else.

How would Rick Sund laugh this off exactly?? Franco's right on the money: they very well may lose this guy for nothing..Eddy Curry's a joke but he's a huge expiring contract--that's what makes him attractive in any trade, not his play and from what Kam has outlined, they'd also get Chandler & Douglas...If Mr. Sund can do better than that, so be it dude, go for it...But he may not be able too...That's a pretty fair deal (huge cap relief and two good young players that are salary controlled for the time being --- maybe Chandler improves upon his 15 & 5 he gave us last year, maybe TD improves to the point where he could make Mike Bibby & Jeff Teague expendable...It's not a terrible trade for a team that may lose this guy for nada...And I like the idea of having JJ & Gallo here and then still keeping the 2 max FA thing alive...Kam came up with a good idea here and it keeps in line with what I'm saying on another thread --- it's imperative that we look to make ourselves appear more attractive than we are now...It's the only way we'll have a shot to score big in free agency.

The only thing with this particular deal -- I understand JJ can handle the ball some and so could LeBron, one of the two big FAs we'd hope to lure in with this deal, but it really leaves us w/o a PG. I like the deal and I'd execute if everyone was on board..That might be the key to something like this --- Atlanta greenlights the deal along with Lebron AND Bosh's seal of approval --- if Atlanta said yes and Lebron & Bosh found it favorable and would agree to come with JJ in tow, you do the deal...If Bron/Bosh didn't immediately respond favorably, I probably pass and look elsewhere...Good call Kam and I don't think Atlanta hangs up the phone on us with this proposal...

You do realize Atlanta would prefer to lose Joe Johnson for NOTHING and save 15 million. Atlanta does not want expiring deals because they arent going to trade for guys on longer deals.

It is being reported that Atlanta wants to resign Johnson. At the end of the season Johnson said he didn't want to start over. Things change but Atlanta is still in the running to keep Johnson.

I don't know -- at the very least the Hawks would be getting a legit starting SF in Chandler --- they could then move Marvin Williams for another asset.

Curry would be an expiring and if anything Curry surrounded by Al Horford actually might be able to produce around the blocks for the Hawks.

Plus he expires this year and can be dealt at the deadline or this summer --- maybe with Marvin.

Bottom line --- potentially better than getting nothing for Johnson.

Kinda hard to see this guy going back to Atlanta after he trashed the fans there a little bit no? I don't see this guy back in Atlanta personally..

sheridans view from a chat today, who knows if he is right at this time:

Joey (New York)

Any chance NYK can pull of a Chandler/Curry for J.J. sign and trade and then sign LeBosh ? Would that be a better team than Chi ?
Chris Sheridan
(3:12 PM)

Nobody is trading for Eddy Curry,. If you are looking for a dead weight center who is likely to be traded this summer, it is Erick Dampier. He has a non-guaranteed contract for $13.1 million, and the deadline for his team to decline that option is not until the end of training camp. That is why he is a huge outgoing sign-and-trade chip for the Mavs this summer.

Doug (NYC)

Should the Rose/Lebron co-existing point and the Bulls lack of shooters be the Knicks #1 pitch point?
Chris Sheridan
(3:53 PM)

Their No.1 pitch point will be playing in NY, but from a basketball standpoint one of their top arguments should be that they are positioned to be major players in free agency again in 2011 when Eddy Curry comes off the cap. Miami and Chicago can't make that same argument.
