I am ok if the Knicks don't move up and take him in the first round and grab him at 38 but I think there will be better players or players with more upside available (i.e. Willie Warren, Terrico White, Lance Stephenson). If the Knicks move Chandler who is the same age to get him then I think it is a huge mistake. Chandler is an NBA starter who averaged 15 and 5 last year. I don't think you move the most accomplished guy on your roster to get a guy who should be available in the second round. I also am worried that the Knicks will follow their pattern of making known their goal and over compensate other teams in an attempt to achieve it.
Not sure I would go by the Mocks that are out there.
Also not sure that "upside" is the biggest priority- although none of us really know what Hobson's upside is. I tend to put faith in how the Knicks see him- Walsh and MDA and seen him a number of times, including a tryout with the Nets, from what I understand. They also saw him look very good against Stephenson, a very mature (physically( 19 year old who many around here like. Hobson is more polished than Stephenson and White, from what I have read, and Willie Warren has shown very little when I have seen him the past 2 years.
They are looking for a smart player who can fit into the rotation now, not in 3 years. Even around the time we drafted Hill last year, you heard the word "raw" used to describe him. You are not going to see the Knicks take a non-center who can be considered "raw," at this point. They obviously see Hobson as a rotation ready guy from the start- and a guy who can probably play at 2 & 3, and even bring the ball up the court at times.
If one of the bigs who people like falls to the position where we have a 1st Rnd agreement, I might want one of them, but I could live with the Knicks picking most of the guys who have been mentioned- Brackins, Hobson, Johnson, and to a lesser extent Vasquez.
I do hope that Walsh can buy some more 2s, but who knows what he is thinking on that matter.
Should be an interesting day, tomorrow. Looking forward to it.
