I tell ya --that cap hold is only 1.2mm I would give them 3mm in cash pick 39 for that pick and take Whiteside even if we have a deal pending for a big for Curry. That is a pro-active move for the future--I think we have to bite the bullet and get an athletic C prospect--we never just do it--but we have the chance here imho.

Good point about Walker. I think you always have to be cautious about giving up guys that show they can produce at the NBA level but Walker's knees scare me. He also had a brief tryout on a team where any live body was playing and other guys like Barron excelled. I don't think that locks him in as a keeper.

Walker lost 25 pounds so far this off season and has added muscle. He's a keeper in my eyes because he is a clutch 3pt guy, he defends ok, and he just has a winning attitude. I think he was a much better fit for the Knicks than crazy N8, even though I like N8 as a dude, he would never be happy here and MDA hated him. Walker is in, though I also would like that #18 pick. I imagine by the end of the week there may be other first rounders available with less cap old.

Who is to say that the #18 would be better than Walker?

I don't see us buying into the first round unless we have previous knowledge of our moves and how they relate to the cap space we have (as in, forget the 2 max scenario).

I'd give both second round picks and $3m, but I wouldn't give up Walker.

They wouldn't sell it to us anyway. Plenty of other teams to sell it to that won't hurt their chances in Free Agency. Portland could pay $3M, give them rights to a foreign player and give back a 2nd.
You know I gonna spin wit it

If the cap is 56.1, we have room for two 16.8 million dollar slots and another 1.8 left over to sigh a #1 pick.
The #18 pick has about a 1.5 mil caphold.

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

You have to factor in the 17.8M sign and trade for a max FA. (such as, if Bosh wants to S&T which would give him the 6th year, the larger base starting salary, and larger percentage raises per year)

Of which I think is a distinct possibility. This drops us down to pennies worth of room.

Given that is my thinking that we won't do any moves to jeopardize this cap space...unless we have prior knowledge that we will do 1 Max + pieces and not 2 Max + wait until 2011 to add pieces route (or an EC trade on draft day).
