Eddy Curry has picked up his option for the 2010-11 season with the New York Knicks.

Curry has sought a buyout, but he appears unwilling to accept anything less than the full amount of his $11.276M contract.

The Knicks, however, are now free to trade Curry

You can't be traded when you are not under contract.

I think it is going to be a very active draft night.

Yeah that little move is huge, cuz he didn't have to pick up the option now. The timing suggests that he has heard from the Knicks and is open to whatever it is they've got cooked up. It all makes sense since we know that they Knicks want to make some kind of splash before the FA market opens. They can show Lebron/Bosh that they have the means to put a solid team around them. This is getting more and more interesting every day.

I think this is just Curry making sure he gets his money. Curry is best as a trade asset AFTER we sign our summer acquisitions because we will be over the cap and can take back 125% of his salary.

FYI, I think Curry had until June 30th to pick up option... strange timing.

Maybe he didn't want to pull an Anthony Carter.

Yeah but the timing is the thing that makes it curious. He didn't have to do so early, but since he did it sounds like he's cooperating with the Knicks who may have plans to use him in a trade. If he takes his time and doesn't pick up the option before the draft what could the Knicks do with him? So it's more than just a guy simply making sure he gets his money. It seems to me that it's part of Eddy and his Agent trying to work with the Knicks to get something done. No deal may ultimately take place, but now there's the option of a deal being worked out.

We are talking about a opt-in not opt-out. Really why play around with 12 million dollars in guranteed money. Im surprised he waited this long. Guys wait to the 30th to opt-out not into deals.

+1 to everyone who think the timing is significant. Gives the Knicks some flexibility on Draft Night...No?

So the LeBron/Curry meeting must have went like this:

LeBron spoke to Curry about how important it was for his future team to have Curry as a bargaining chip on the day of the draft (Curry thought about eating chips, and told Lebron he was hungry.)- LeBron said he would have WW Wes put in a good word for him with the basketball gods if Curry picked up his option before the draft, and also told Curry he would give him the kiss of death if he did not cooperate. (Curry's first thought was how he wanted some Hershey's Kisses, but finally realized James was threatening him.) It was an "offer" that Curry could not refuse. Curry then promised to pick up his option prior to the draft.

Him picking up his contract was a foregone conclusion. It's not a sign of a trade.

Curry wanted to make sure LeBron knew that he would be here when Bron arrives. Wonderful.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

I think Curry must have been told there is a better chance he can be moved if he picked up his option before the draft. He knows D'Antoni isn't going to play him and it is a contract year for him. I think he wants to at least have an opportunity to try and earn his next contract.

That sounds very plausible to me. I agree that's most likely what's going on here. But I really liked Paladin's answer more.

D'antoni tried to play Curry but how could he play a Guy with a wounded vagina?

Its almost all on Eddy for his conditioning and injuries but Eddy averaged 37 minutes a year under D'Antoni. He did have a healthy period this year where he was benched. Where was the up the value philosophy that was applied to Jeffries prior to trading the #8 pick (that didn't play because Jeffries and bender were getting minutes)and two 1st rounders. During his brief period of health was Curry not playing because of his size, D' believes bigs clog the lane and slow down the offense, or because he did not meet the character requirement to play that the grizzled vets with expirings met this past year? If the Knicks somehow were able to dump Curry they could still have Hill and the two first round picks that they gave up or at least something from that combination along with the cap space.

Are we really gonna discuss the JJ trade again? Pretty sure this subject has been rubbed over and over enough times.
