I'm just wondering what some other NY fans think the worst we can do is. I have a gut feeling LeBron will stay in Cleveland and Wade will stay in Miami and Riley will try to bring in Boozer or Bosh. Stoudemire and Joe Johnson are the 2 biggest questionmarks for me and they both played for MD but I think they will re-sign or find a more appealing place where they can win sooner. All the free agents talk about is Lee and Gallo and we likely won't bring Lee back, right? That leaves Gallo who was good but still has a lot of growing to do. I'm not even convinced he would be the best player left on the team. So is it possible we come away from this offseason with nothing and aim for next year where the same thing could happen? MD and DW have said they don't want to get stuck in mediocrity so they are aiming high. They don't want to do what Detroit did last year with Gordon/Villanueva.

The worst case scenario is paying a couple secondary free agents so they can come in here and win 46 games. I just don't want that to happen. That's worse than coming up empty. The thing is though, once Walsh made that Houston trade with lotto picks to basically only save about 6 mil for this season, he kind of put himself in a position where he has to make a splash THIS offseason in particular or else that trade just looks LAUGHABLY bad. Otherwise we could have just waited the year for Jeffries to expire and then had our picks

Hopefully LeBron takes our money, as that would make this process much less complicated

Worst possible scenario is we get pick 1 in the draft next year and pick 2 the following Jordan Hill avgs 16-9 and we are left holding are thumbs in FA.

worst possible scenario is if the 4 big names don't sign here & we end up spending longterm big bucks on guys like Joe Johnson & Carlos Boozer/D Lee & end up being just good enough to be just another mediocre team with zero shot of winning a championship for the next several years... pretty much spinning our wheels just like we've been doing for the past 10 years.

actually, wait, there's 1 scenario worse than that... that is if we end up doing those moves i just mentioned & we still suck like we have for the past several years & end up seeing our next 2 lottery picks go to Houston.

Scott Layden and Isiah Thomas are re-hired as co-GMs, Allan Houston gets another $100 million / 6 year contract, despite being retired, Stephon Marbury, Jerome James and Tim Thomas all come back. Othella Harrington comes back to play center. Welcome to hell. Beat that.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

hey, the question was asked... i sure as hell hope that's not the case, but you have to realize the situation at hand... if the big names don't come here then DW will be faced with the fact that he gave away his next 2 lottery picks to Houston unless he can put together a team that can compete in 2010 & make a run at the playoffs... there's no way Jim Dolan signed on for this plan if that wasn't a given IMO.

We've got to field a team and I doubt that DW and MDA will want to go in with a team that is essentially as bad as the one we just broke up. That to me means that we could see a JJ3 come in and some low cost FA's like a Shawn Livingston, Raymond Felton, Tyrus Thomas or a deal to get Parker or Gay. Then leave enough Cap space to go at it again in 2011. Also don't forget that we have the trade deadline to see what deals can be made. This is just stage one of the rebuild. To me the worst case scenario is where we exhaust all of the cap space on guys that don't help us to become a title contender. After Lebron/Wade/Bosh/Amare I think everyone else is not worth a Max contract. Thing is that doesn't mean they won't ask. DW has to be real shrewd in how he spends that money.

Why worry about the Worst Possible scenario when plan C (Joe Johnson, and a Power Forward) has many knick fans slitting their wrists?

Why worry about any scenario until July 8th? It won't impact anything to prepare for the worst future. We just went through the worst case scenario (i.e., ten years of suckage culminating in Isaiah F-ing Thomas as our Head Coach and GM). Nothing could be worse than what we just experienced. Now we are turning a new page and come July 8th, a brighter future. There's no reason to think that if we whiff on this year's FA class we are doomed to mediocrity. Sure, we might not be setup for a chip, but we will field a team and play the schedule. We still gotta remember to breathe.

A little birdie told me that Lebron and Bosh will be NYK players before the second week of July. Let's wait and see what happens.

Briggs, you are aware that we would be getting those picks right?

I guess what I'm asking is: What is the chance that the majority of the Fa's re-sign and the few on the market don't sign with us? Some people act like getting Joe Johnson/Rudy Gay and Carlos Boozer is the end of the world lol

C'mon man. You have 2 posts and both of them are about the worst possible thing that can happen to the Knicks. Are you Chris Broussard?

If the worst possible scenario is Johnson, Amare, Gallo and Chandler for Rubio + whatever, Kyle Korver/Mike Miller, Curry + remaining young assets for Okafor + collison, I'm happy as hell

Rubio
Johnson
Korver
Amare
Okafor

bench: Collison, second rounder, second rounder, purchased pick, collection of corpses

worse possible scenario?

No one's yet mentioned Gilbert Arenas!

So, when we assume the position and march out all of these NYC celebrities and LBJ, Wade, Bosh et all all sign elsewhere, what do you think our beloved owner is going to do? Be ok with staying the course. No, he will demand action.

The reasoning will go that Gilbert is as talented as any of the big names, and that we can get him 'cheap'. God only knows what we'll give up, but it should be us getting better stuff back, picks, etc.

We'll probably miss out on D Lee- again, worse case.

So, just like Gilbert, Walsh will look for front court help, and find it in New Orleans!

Worse case?

Gilbert Arenas
Tracy McGrady
Chandler
Gallo
Okafor

bench: TD, Walker, Harrington.

How you like them apples?

At most, unless Gallo turns into some kind of monster All Star, that group is lucky to win 40+ games in a season.

So, we're capped out the next 3-5 years. Good enough to either be in the back of the lottery or eliminated in the first round.

Walsh & MDA are all gone after a year, Dolan immediately brings in the next Isiah Thomas and demands that he rebuild the engine during flight, that no one would accept a 'real' rebuild.

Worst possible scenario?
