CHICAGO -- Chris Bosh's agent has told the Toronto Raptors that he's narrowed his list of preferred teams to five, two sources told ESPN.com's Chad Ford at the NBA draft camp.

The list of five teams -- Toronto plus the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat and New York Knicks, sources said -- were given to Toronto management in case the Raptors want to construct a sign-and-trade deal (assuming he doesn't re-sign with Toronto).

One source said Bosh's decision hinges on where LeBron James signs.

"If LeBron decides to go to either New York or Chicago, I think that's where you'll see Chris land," the source told Ford. "If LeBron stays in Cleveland, I think the process is more wide open."

OK so this news and we have a thread with three posts on it. When Bosh laughed off the idea of playing in NY 5 months ago we had multiple threads for two weeks with 100s of responses. There's something wrong with this picture guys.

Wow. Well, 5 months later it's the Knicks offseason, it's a beautiful Friday afternoon here in the tri-state, and the OP has been up for only an hour. If there were 2 dozen posts up on this already, there would be something much more seriously wrong with that picture.

the face that NJ is not on the list is very telling, that makes it very hard for them to get Lebron, he's not going by himself imo

See what you did now? Now this thread will erupt into Briggy's lecture on Brook Lopez. :)

What I take from this is that Bosh really wants that 6th year money. Giving out S&T scenarios. Seeing as how Colangelo is high on Gallinari, it will deplete from NY already small assets. I hope Lebron isn't looking to help out Cleveland with a S&T too. Getting into the first round will help accumulating assets I guess. Salary wise NY needs one of these guys need to forgo that 6th year unless you can convince them to take Curry.

DW's job is to try and convince Bosh to come without that 6th year. It sounds crazy, given that there will be teams willing to do a deal with Toronto, but I think he can get it done. What good is that 6th year if you end up with a team that won't have Lebron on it? Not that the team he does go to will be bad, but just saying, if you've got an opportunity to play with a stud that can form a dynamic duo for the next 5-10 years why wouldn't you do it? There's gonna be another shot to get that extra money with a contract extension, but the chance to play for titles may not be so easy to come by.

I agree. I think you're crazy if you think Bosh is going to try to leave $30 million on the table. I don't know how you roll Daddy Warbucks but $30 million would keep me happy Lebron or no. And no one knows the future. You could improve your game or your game can go on a sharp decline. That's why you get money while you can. The way these guys blow through money too. I rather be a wealthy loser than a broke champion. I think S&T is the only thing on Bosh's mind.

The Knicks might be able to use Lee + Chandler in a sign and trade. The problem is we can only use them in one deal. One of either Bosh/Lebron has to accept less than a max deal or they have to split the difference where one gets the extra year but the other gets the higher starting salary and raises.

Yeah and just how did Lebron and Bosh end up being FA's in this particular year? They both could've gone after longer contracts if they had concerns about getting all the money they could locked up right now. I'm not saying that they don't want the money, but I also think they are confident in themselves enough that they would accept a shorter contract feeling they'll get an extension.

cuz they are 7 yr guys and the max sal increases for them now (30% of cap as opposed to 25%). thats why they did the shorter contract to opt out after 7 yrs service time. if the cba wasnt in danger of being smoked, i could see them both doing a contract with another opt out after 3 yrs to get the 10 years service -- 35% cap/higher max sal/etc...

They took shorter contracts so they can enter UFA quicker. That was the whole plan. Melo was the only one who messed up. It was about satisfying their service years so they can get max money as soon as possible. If they would have accepted it off their rookie contracts they would be making more at the end of the season but they would be short changing themselves later on. Bosh will be on the other side of 30. That's why you see guys opting out now. No one knows what the CBA will be like. Right now though they have $30 million sitting on the table. Even if Bosh is a max contract player at age 30 which I doubt, he won't be able to get that $30 million back because I find it unlikely he will get a Kobe Bryant type of extension. Age is not on his side. This is Bosh prime years.

Supposedly the list could be longer than 5 teams.... but his agent Henry Thomas has shot down the rumor.

Bosh will go anywhere that gets him that 6th year. He just hopes it's not Toronto.

I thought I read somewhere that the CBA was grandfathered in - namely, no matter the current CBA, you would sign a contract based on the CBA that you either came into the league, or your last contract was signed.

I could be completely off here- but thought there was something like this at play that perhaps would indeed induce Bosh/Lebron to take 5 years from us with opt out in 3.

every FA is going to say they like NY because there are max contracts waiting out there to be had. I doubt he could stomach it here
