Explain to me since Pat Ewing era ending many moons ago why oh why ? do Knicks trade away draft picks
and have no patience OR care for the NBA drafting process since the mid to late 1990's.

As bad as Knicks been since 2002/2003 we've never had been in draft talks or possibilities by
the experts since Knicks are notorious for trading away their draft chips and rights to have
opportunities at young college players dreaming of a job in NBA.

Most NBA teams wont never do GOOD trades with the Knicks, nor did Knicks ever have any $cap space
appeal to sign big name players after their final NBA title run in 1998/1999.

Most NBA GMs laugh at Knicks or want to r_pe them in deals which leave NY with bad contracts since
NY has no patience for developing college players nor researching them.

Point I make here is its a fun time to try and prepare for drafting future stars into NBA. This is
and always been a tradition for entire NBA for all except NY Knickerbockers organization.

Seems logically to me you'd need to not rely on any teams trading stars to your organization nor
rely on luck of Free agents wanting to come to Knickerbockerland you may as well try to go draft
and accumalate draft picks selections which are "Chips" to play or bargain with similar to rolling
the dice at Atlantic City or Vegas.

Seems to me Knicks never think like this or want to be part of the time in May and June where young
talent and dreams are made real, Knicks has no clue on getting into what the whole NBA been doing
for decades.

I can't understand it.
FA's players rarely talk in public that "I'd love to come to NY". Most people could care less for Knicks
or being part of a storied and proud organization.

Knicks never seem to be in any useful position come draft time and when they have selections in top 10
they research it wrongly and waste picks. I am tired of it ! Too many good young kids entering NBA
and our team doesnt have clue how to get into mix of planning for these talents.

The draft is a fickle mistress and is not to be trusted. For every OKC there are 5 teams that draft high every year and strike out. NY has been in a tailspin since Ewing was traded and it's cost us. No sense crying over spilled milk. Right now we're going a different route. The draft only produces a title if you're talking one of the top 10 players in the league. Shaq, Duncan, Kobe, Wade, KG... Who else really has won with their high draft picks?

cuz folks fail at it, we should take it lightly? knicks have stunk at trades, draft picks, FA's... should we not bother to do any of that? the draft is there every year for you to add young players at a low cost. if you arent good at it, fine. it shouldnt be dismissed so easily.

GO TEAM VENTURE!!!!!

what is the point of crying about 10 years worth of trash??? Again the Knicks have Gallo, Walker, Chandler, Tony Douglas and Eddy Curry under contract next year with 36 million dollars to spend....why don't we focus on the bright future??? If they mess that up then you can stick your gloom stick in that hole

Ted would not spend money. Dolan is a lot of things but not stupid cheap. Just the opposite. Stupid spender.

Knicks always taking the shortcut cuz they afraid to rebuild. Once your over the cap its like a mad drug habit you have to feed. You keep feeding the monster hoping it makes the playoffs and keeps fans around. Layden had stopped spending but had hidiously boring team, Isiah viciously starphuched and failed miserably. Donnie is on the right track. Biggest free agent class and we got biggest cap space. Can't say we not prepared or did not try.

but how can you not think it was a good move to trade the future draft picks that freed up the cap space.

i think the Jordan hill trade was the thing that we will look back on and say "thats what got us lebron"

<< Who else really has won with their high draft picks?>> Crying over spilled milk ?

What you said makes no sense

Forget the high draft picks its having a shot at best player possible usually in a 1st round draft.

First of all 3 of the 5 players you mentioned (Duncan, Kobe, Wade) won NBA Titles with their original teams with only Kobe forcing
a draft day trade from Hornets to Lakers. Between Duncan and Kobe what is that ? eh ? 8 titles for their original team.
All were high 1st rnd picks.

Think Knicks & its fanbase would gladly trade that fortune 8 rings instead of nearly 38-39 yrs without a NBA title in NY.
Add young D.Wade to original team winning at least 1 NBA Title. Only Shaq and KG didnt win until Lakers got Shaq in a Trade
and recall a Young Shaq team was good enough to make 2 NBA Finals (Magic) before becoming a Laker.

Same premise with KGarnett being given away by Kevin "blockhead" McHale to his old Celtic Team buddy Danny Ainge to help make
Celtics look so great.

You mention FA's I agree with that.
But dont tell me NBA teams win titles with just FA's signing and without drafting good pieces or talent to their squads
and development. (See Scotty Pippen and BULLs 6 rings with MJ).

All in all premise of post was you got to help yourself. Knicks have not done that by ignoring OR being ignorant to draft
as they had been since the glory days of Frazier, Reed, Dave D and later P.Ewing. (Bernie King wasnt orig. Knick draftee)

You need FA's , you need role players and skill players positions. You need coaching of course and you need to draft.
I dont see the issue with it OR it being overrated.

You go back to all them teams whom had stars and drafts,
They each got something done when they got it all together. Magic's Lakers, Larry's Celtics, Zeke Thomas's Pistons,
MJ Bulls, Hakeems Rockets and later on the Spurs teams (Duncan, Admiral Robinson) and Lakers teams (Shaq and Kobe).

Drafting I feel is as important as anything other parts to building a winner.
Sure Celtics may have not got it done without KG, Rondo and Ray Allen non-originals. But Paul Pierce was pretty good
at Kansas and is writing his name into Celtic book of fame. Pierce drafted as a building piece took awhile to win.

I dont even like Pierce and his Celtics!
