If Knicks S&T Lee (for say a 2nd rounder or low salary), do they get a salary trade exception that totals his salary?

... so in essence, that would possibly expand their salary cap by another $9-10M?

interesting thought martin. i don't see why they wouldn't since whenever you trade a player for a player of lower salary or a draft pick you end up with an exception. IF there isn't some loophole and this is true, that would expand the knicks salary cap space to 43-44 million. this could allow the knicks to sign 2 max guys and maybe even a guy like rudy gay as well.

Or a first round pick and have money left over?

in that case, could we sign 2 max guys and then trade for another max player using that trade exception?

no, but here is another cap space advantage.

Team A trade a player making $10mm to the Knicks for cash considerations and a future draft pick.

Knicks gets: that player and the pick
Team A gets: cap relief, possibly luxury tax relief and they get a large trade exception they can use for a year. It can be a very valueable piece. Just another cap space advantage.
