interesting thought martin. i don't see why they wouldn't since whenever you trade a player for a player of lower salary or a draft pick you end up with an exception. IF there isn't some loophole and this is true, that would expand the knicks salary cap space to 43-44 million. this could allow the knicks to sign 2 max guys and maybe even a guy like rudy gay as well.

Team A trade a player making $10mm to the Knicks for cash considerations and a future draft pick.
Knicks gets: that player and the pick Team A gets: cap relief, possibly luxury tax relief and they get a large trade exception they can use for a year. It can be a very valueable piece. Just another cap space advantage.
