Aight, lets say some thigns about Marbury and the rest of it.
There are only 3 players in the NBA who can be saviors, Shaq, Duncan, and Garnett, notice the trend? They are all BIG MEN. No gaurd will save this team unless his Airness sees a falling star and wishes he was 30 again, is granted his wish, and decides to make yet another comback with the Knicks this time around.
That said, we do have a foundation for a future squad. Marbury is 26 and signed to 7 years. Van Horn is signed for 2 years, Houston is signed for like 4 more or something like that. Norris is singed for a while and makes a good backup PG, Hardaway is signed and is a good bench player as well who can play 1, 2 and 3. OH is a solid backup PF, just don't play him a C. Doleac is a solid C.
Trade assets: Williams and Sweetney, 2nd rounderds, possible future 1st rounders (pushing it lol), Motombu (just cause he is a C), Thomas, Anderson.
What needs to be done:
1)Get a real coach, Chaney is a nice guy, but I hate for being a head coach, any man with any self respect would have quit by now seeing how much he sucks at something.
2)Get a reliable lowpost scorer.
3)Find a long term solution at C, Motombu is old, very old, he will hardly last past this season, as it is might not fit the new team style brought in by Stephon. Dallas needs a C for a real shot at the title, why not use thier desire?
4)Must realize this season is over, build with the next season in mind, as in bring in players that will play next year as a really good team once they have a real coach and a training camp together.
Possible Solutins:
1)Trade Motombu and Anderson to Dallas for their 1st round pick and Fortson, this way we can pick somebody in the 1st and have a good backup PF next year since Fortson is signed for years lol. Play around with minor players to make the deal work.
2)Trade Thomas, Sweetney, and Williams for Wallace and 1st round pick.
Add minor players to make it work. Gets us a lowpost scorer and another 1st rounder to make up for the looss of our own in the Marbury deal. Yeah I hate loosin 1st rounders lol.
3)Geroge Karl anyone? Can Rudy come back? Riles give up on his heah maybe? Thomas coah himself? Anybody but Chaney lol.
Feel free to disect this, this is just a rough draft of our future so to speak lol, it'll be fun to go back and see what actually happens by the beginnin of next season.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Nothing much to dissect. I think you got it. I think a REAL coach can win 45-50 games with THIS team in the EAST. To win a RING, you need a BONAFIDE low post guy to go with a healthy Stephon and H20 and KVH.

Nice post-good ideas but doesn't work under the cap or fill Thomas' desire to field potential chanpionship. Need someone to stop Shaq (as if that's possible if Shaq has the desire)so must keep Deke

Basically we have to supply some other teams with need to get back draft choices while maintaining the new core. Should also keep in mind that KVH may have some benefits if moved to pf where defensive deficiencies will be reduced'

That being said-the only way to get sheed is to get them to accept KVH to match salaries and hope Anderson continues recently solid play

If you think our season is over because we don't all the pieces and we're not at .500 this momement, think again

Some failed assumptions....Not everyone is solid. I have a hard time calling Moochie Norris solid. There a ton of players in the CBA who do the same thing Norris does for less money. As much as this guy pushes the ball, or scores in garbage time, he doesn't seem to do enough manage a game and get others involved. His shooting percentages have always stunk, which is a reflection of the shots he takes. He is very streaky on the offensive end. His D is awful as well. He's passable behind Marbury, but he makes too much, and yes, we might have a hard time dealing him. Doleac is not a solid C, but an ok backup C...major difference. He is a good shooter and has show to be a willing and able rebounder in his opportunities this year, but the guy only fits certain systems and doesn't have enough dimensions to his game. Still, he'd be good in up tempo scenario because he can run, and Marbury can hit this guy in open spots.

We don't have a solid foundation if you trade Williams and Sweetney and don't get any players under 25 back. Now everyone on the team is over 25, and there aren't draft picks coming.

You can't just say "add fillers" to make trades work. The Knicks fillers all make starter money. No one wants to take Anderson's expensive multiyear deal. Portland would have to take it to make a Wallace deal work where they are not getting Van Horn.

But at the same time, I agree. THis team needs a new coach in the worst way and that's going to be the biggest difference maker for this team. I also agree Marbury is not that savior, and some tinkering still needs to be done to get this team to the playoffs, and further win the East. I am not quite ready to give up on this year. I'd fire Chaney regardless of whether we win tonight. The problem is we blew a few too many games on our easy swing.

I would hardly call FWill and Sweetney ... foundations. Marbury, Van Horn, Houston are the foundation. Sweetney, was a horrible pick... but I'll try not to beat that horse any more.

rain...I think you have to some youth as part of what you build around. Williams and Sweetney are not foundations yet, but they are the two young players on the team that can improve nad later be something to build around. Williams is now reduundant unfortunately, so he may never be that. For now I disagree with you on the Sweetney pick. I liked his game in college, and I haven't seen enough of him in the NBA to make a judgment yet. I think we need to give him PT.

The idea is, if you're going to trade Williams and Sweetney, you're two previous first round picks...you better make sure you are getting a young player who can be part of a foundation. Someone like Chris Wilcox or Drew Gooden fits that bill IMO.
